Tutoring review by Nainesh in Englewood, CO
Today was my first meeting with the student since the beginning of school. She is doing very well in her studies, and we covered a basis for Geometry and Chemistry. We will be meeting again on Sunday to cover more topics.  She has a renewed value of and attitude for school, which was really cool to see.  I think she will do much better this semester/year in school.

The student and I started by discussing vocabulary at the beginning before doing strategies on a few verbal passages. We finished the day with Math strategies and also worked out some questions from that section. We are scheduled to meet on Sunday at the same time.

Made a plan to study for his algebra final. There are 5 chapters so we reviewed the first 2. I assigned the practice problems for those chapters and for him to look over the last (current) chapter. Next time we will do the 3rd and 4th chapters.

Tutoring review by Patricia in Englewood, CO
Today, we worked through the assignments together.  In critical reading, the student did much better than before. She has a strong logical capability and can often arrive at the correct choice through elimination and deduction. She also did generally well on the math problems. In between the reading and math activities, we did some quick exercises from among the writing and editing items. She also did well there. This was our last session because she takes the assessment on October 16. Her odds of doing better are very good. As with previous sessions, she was thoughtful and hardworking.

Tutoring review by James in Englewood, CO
The student's current homework was on first order linear differential equations. I showed him the process of finding the integrating factor, multiplying the whole given equation by it, and then rewriting the LHS of the equation in terms of the derivative of (integrating factor times y). He understood the process well after a few simple examples. There were small mistakes when the coefficient of y was a little more complicated, but he was able to work through them after some explanation. I also gave him some context for differential equations: back in algebra, you have some stuff happening to a number on the LHS, and a known quantity on the RHS. You have to try to figure out what number satisfies that. In differential equations, instead of having stuff happen to a number, you have stuff happening to a function and its derivative, and you have to use calculus to determine what function satisfies your initial problem.
