We did a little bit of both Pre-calc and Chemistry today. For Pre-calc, we talked about the unit circle and the student answered some of his homework problems. For chemistry, we talked about VESPR theory and molecular shapes. He picked up the material as we went along the session and after asking a few questions.

The student and I really dug into linear transformations today, looking at the y = bf((x-h)/a) + k form. Together we developed the ordering acronym All Hobgoblins Boil Kids to remember which order we have to apply the constants, (ahbk), and we practiced applying linear transformations to all the major parent functions at her level. We also covered how domain and range are affected and how to draw the curves of square/cube (root) functions. In general she was alert and attentive and made some really strong showings of her mastery in this subject. I think that as a result of this session she will now be significantly ahead of her classmates in the subject. Congratulations!

I brought a clock to the session and gave the student times to show me on the clock to the hour and half hour. We also reviewed counting by 5s to 60 minutes for the hour. We then played a dice game where a target number is given, and she and I took turns rolling 5 dice and finding ways to reach the target, using addition or subtraction.

In today's session, the student and I covered similar triangles and other related geometric constructions. The specific problems that we worked on during the session came from the review packet that his teacher gave him. This was an excellent session as it always is with this student. He's a very intelligent and enjoyable student.

The student and I started our review for her Geometry final exam. She brought a review worksheet that her teacher provided to prepare for the upcoming test. We did a review of each topic with a short explanation and visual representation of the concept. She was able to work through the problems after our reviews. We will continue working through the problems in our next session.
