Tutoring review by Philip in Apache Junction, AZ
We covered a few written response questions which the student had downloaded from previous exams questions on the AP website. The first involved the amount of traffic turning left at an intersection and covered determining function values, derivative values, second derivative values, and average function values over a specific sub-domain. The last part of the question was to determine if a left turn light was necessary if the average amount of traffic turning left exceeded 400 cars over any two-hour period. This was a tricky question. We then covered another problem involving FTC part one whereby a graph of a function was given but not the actual function. This was another tricky question and the student will need more practice with this kind of question to prepare for the exam. I'll write a similar question and email it to him and we can go over it at our next tutoring session. We finished the session by looking at related rates and first determined the surface area rate of increase given the volume rate of increase of a spherical balloon. Second, he determined the water level rate of increase given the volume increase of water in a conical tank. He did well on these related rate problems.

Tutoring review by Michael in Apache Junction, AZ
We reviewed the basics of trigonometry, specifically 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 right triangles and SOH-CAH-TOA. We reviewed a few prerequisite skills (rationalizing fractions with square roots in the denominator, and reducing square roots), and worked a few practice problems over the different type of special right triangles. A fair amount of the student's problems came from a lack of clear notes (mainly worked examples) from class to review, and doing FAR too much work in his head and far too quickly. These are things we can easily work on and overcome.

Tutoring review by Nadia in Apache Junction, AZ
I met with the student to go over her next round of drafts. We got through all of them, as well as an essay that needed more development. We brainstormed on how to address the missing pieces, and she started writing. Based on the brainstorming, I was able to edit the modified essay. She is submitting applications this weekend, and once that is done, we will meet up again to go over her next essay for an application that is due later this year.

Tutoring review by Kori in Apache Junction, AZ
The student and I worked on test corrections on multiplying and dividing by powers of ten. Then we practiced further in preparation for a retest, reviewed long division with decimal divisors and when zeros appear in the quotient, and made flashcards to review the rules of multiplying by powers of tens.

We worked on a review of transformations of triangles and quadrilaterals, which included translation, reflection, and rotation, in preparation for the student's test tomorrow. She had a thorough understanding of the topic by the end of the session.
