I am an experienced educator with 35 years of experience teaching in the area of Human Communication. My work has been with college students, dual-enrolled high school students, and high school debaters. I am passionate about helping students because when I was a student I did not receive much help from my teachers or my parents. My approach is to be honest with the students about how to succeed. I cover topics such as understanding expectations, time management, research, outlining, and of course Public Speaking and any other Human Communication subject. I focus on student success and work to empower students to take charge of their education. I help them with tasks such as communicating with their teacher and how to be effective in group learning situations. I received my education in Michigan and Florida. I have a PhD in Speech Communication Education from The Florida State University, a B.A and M.A in Speech Communication from Wayne State University, and by Sept. 2022 will hold a M.A. in Educational Studies from the University of Michigan along with a Certificate in Learning Experience Design. I tutor in the following subjects: Composition, Library Research, Outlining for papers and speeches, Debate, Public Speaking, and Student Success. My favorite subject is Student Success because if a student knows how to be a student, they can really thrive. My teaching philosophy involves student empowerment. My tutoring style is to treat students with respect and dignity, talk to them frankly, and support them in their learning journey. I tend to ask a lot of questions and work with the student to choose to set up personal goals. I then help them meet those goals. Outside of academia, I'm a big fan of live music and taking photos outside in nature. I also like to paint and draw.

Whether working over practice questions in a test booklet, reading an instructional manual or an obscure book for pleasure in a library corner, we are engaging with the words and ideas of others and measuring them for their value, use and relevance. Thinking is never done in total isolation anyway but rather is always a social exercise and activity. The best teaching and learning then, I think, allows us to consider knowledge, from the most practical to the most abstract, as both social exercise and activity. This means, as exercise, that we get comfortable with the necessary repetitions of learning--reading and writing, listening and speaking with consideration. As social activity, strong teaching and learning allows us to consider knowledge production as constantly unfolding, knowledge production as a place where self-expression and communication within a larger community are not only welcome but of absolute necessity.

I work with students of different ages, backgrounds, and learning styles in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and related subjects. I believe the best tutoring starts with understanding how each student thinks. My goal is to identify where a concept becomes unclear, explain it from the student's perspective, and help them build both understanding and confidence. I want my students to learn not just how to find the right answer, but why it is the right answer and how to approach similar problems independently. I believe there is always learning in teaching, and that is one of the reasons I continue to enjoy working with students after all these years.

I am currently finishing my last semester at Wayne State University, and will be graduating with a Bachelors in German and International Studies. I have tutoring experience with 8 and 9 year olds in Math and Science, as well as English tutoring for a 10 year old German student. The subjects I teach are German 1 to 4, and can help students on their way to learning a second language. My favorite subject to tutor is German, it has always been my favorite subject in school and I am always excited to teach others what I have learned. My various experiences studying abroad in Germany helped build my confidence in my speaking ability, and really gave me a new appreciation for the language.I believe that the best way to learn is to to teach. In my experience with tutoring so far, I have found that instructing a student is the best way to improve ones self. This is why much of my teaching strategies center around having the student teach the material back to me.When I'm not tutoring German I'm usually reading. I have a passion for literature of all kinds, and once I get talking about a good book it's hard for me to stop! Another hobby of mine is music, I play bass guitar and clarinet in my free time.I hope to be a help to anyone looking to improve their German speaking skills!

Before that, I completed my MA in library science at the University of Arizona, where I studied data management and information services. Most of my formal training is oriented toward university-level teaching and research, but my past work as a gymnastics coach has also given me a lot of practical experience working with young children. Even now, kids in elementary grades remain some of my very favorite students--I really enjoy writing joke books and short stories with them, as well as playing math games like Multiplication War and Fraction Dominos. Students with disabilities are particularly important to me, and I try to stay up to date on the best practices for working with them because I've seen firsthand the ways in which minor accommodations can engender significant improvements in learning outcomes. Regardless of my students' ages and abilities, I enjoy helping all of them develop productive study habits and work practices that complement their personal needs and learning styles.

I am a graduate of Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, where I completed my Ph.D. program in Physics. I was doing research in physics for many years, but it always comes a time when you feel you must pass your knowledge to other people, especially those of new generation. So, I started teaching and tutoring then. Originally I was teaching Conceptual, Algebra-Based and Calculus-Based Physics courses at different colleges and universities. Yet, while teaching these courses, I was also unofficially "tutoring" the students during my office hours when they were coming with their concerns and confusions. Officially, my tutoring started in January 2017, when I was offered to tutor at Science Learning Center of Stark State College in North Canton, Ohio. One thing I like in tutoring is the opportunity to work with students individually and use personal approaches to direct them to the success in their studies, rather than teaching an "average student" standing at a whiteboard or a projector screen. I am tutoring College, University and AP Physics courses, also I am able to tutor algebra/trigonometry and calculus. Rather that just giving the students the equations to solve the desired problems, I prefer to make the students work themselves, concentrating myself in directing them whenever it is necessary and explaining the subtle points of the confusing material studied. During the tests the students are left with their task alone with no help form anyone, and my goal is to make them able to deal with such tasks successfully.

I attended the University of Detroit Mercy where I gained a Bachelor of Science in Biology. I have also recently graduated with a Masters of Basic Medical Sciences from Wayne State University. As you may be able to tell, I have had a passion for science, especially biology, for many years. My academic journey has given me an immense amount of experience with a wide range of subjects and tests. I know very intimately what it is like to be under pressure to perform well in school and on tests and therefore can relate to students under similar circumstances. I have had the opportunity to tutor many people in a wide range of ages and academic abilities in the past.I tutor a wide range of subjects but am most passionate about Math, Science, Reading, Writing, and Test Preparation. I believe the first and most vital step in working with a student is to identify specifically where he or she is struggling. Every student is different and deserves a teaching method that is tailored to them. I believe students learn best when they are guided along through discussion and hands-on methods as opposed to when they are lectured to; I also believe learning can and should be fun! When it comes to preparing for tests, I believe that what you know is only a small part of the puzzle; perfecting test-taking skills is equally important. I have taken many standardized tests throughout my life, and have been able to do well by understanding the tests and utilizing these skills. When I have spare time, I enjoy staying active by playing basketball and exercising. I also enjoy reading, sports, music and traveling. I look forward to helping you find your full potential on the road to success.

We have all had horrible teachers and outstanding teachers. I believe that I am the latter. Over the years as a math tutor and instructor I have learned to be very patient and understanding. Allowing students to communicate their needs to an instructor is very important. But it is also very important that the instructor understands exactly what students need. I allow students to try problems on their own with the use of notes, textbooks, and/or online research first. This allows me to see what exactly they need assistance with. I want students to understand that it is okay to make mistakes because them making a mistake helps me to help better understand a math concept. I believe that my enthusiasm comes naturally because I enjoy teaching Math. This enthusiasm and energy helps to motivate students to do well and to also enjoy math. I also motivate my students by setting high expectations for them. Before any tutoring session begins I explain to them what is expected of them and what I will do to help them meet their expectations and goals. People ask me what makes me most proud. It is not my grades, exam scores, degree, or any personal accomplishment but it is the growth of my students that makes me most proud. I feel that I have completed my job with each struggling student when they are understanding the material better are doing better in math. I also enjoy seeing them be more confident about math.

I graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, where I obtained both a Bachelor of Science in Education (with a major in Reading and a minor in Social Studies) and a Master of Arts in Education. My teaching career began in Michigan in 1991, where I taught middle school students in grades 6-8 across all subjects. After relocating to Arizona in 1998, I continued my teaching career at the elementary level, instructing grades 4-6. In addition to my teaching career, I pursued and achieved certification in School Guidance Counseling and Principalship. I was an educator for 20 years, including two years as an Arizona Master Teacher Mentor, where I supported new teachers in their transition into the profession. Alongside classroom teaching, I have provided private, school-based, and corporate tutoring for companies for over 35 years. As a steadfast advocate for education, particularly public education, I firmly believe that access to quality education should not be influenced by one's zip code or economic status. Having taught in both urban and suburban settings, I have consistently delivered dedicated and high-quality instruction to all my students. In order to cultivate informed, productive, and well-rounded individuals, it is imperative that everyone have access to excellent school systems. I teach/tutor with the passion that our kids deserve. While I have tutored all subjects for grades K-8, I am particularly focused and passionate about teaching reading. I believe that reading is fundamental to academic success. Strong reading and comprehension skills are crucial for performance in all academic areas. And in life. I work to enrich strengths and address areas of concern. As I tell my students, "Once you are a fluent reader, it becomes a lifelong skill that no one can take away." Having experienced my own challenges with reading during my early elementary years, I understand the importance of equipping children with the necessary tools for success.

Since I was a small child, I knew that I wanted to help people. When I am old and fragile, I want to be able to look back on my life and smile about what I have accomplished. Joining the PhD program for Kinesiology at Wayne State University greatly supports me in this mission. As part of my education, I have had the privilege of being immersed in disability culture; this prepared me to pursue my Doctoral Degree in Kinesiology in Education. My interest in becoming an educator dates back to my early elementary years. As with most students, I had experiences with instructors that varied between the good, the bad and the ugly. When my experiences were good, I excelled, took risks, learn, and I would push myself to master a skill. With the bad instances, I would shy away and try not to be noticed by the teacher. I quietly attempted to look busy. The ugly experiences were where I would become embarrassed and completely disengage with a lesson and from an instructor. Even at a young age, I saw which one of these people I would want to model. So the seed was planted in my head to become not just an educator, but a person to inspire others to reach for the stars and strive to achieve their full potential. In my free time I enjoy basketball and teaching.

Prior to the country being shut down due to COVID-19, I was taking classes at Oakland County Community College to keep up with my soft skills and business skills. I have a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a Master of Administration in Science Degree. I have enough credits to get an associate in Education and Business Administration. Currently, I spend a lot of time studying physics as it relates to the human body and how the human body functions. I am in the process of obtaining a Health Coaching Certification.I have been a substitute teacher in the Detroit Michigan area in the past. Also, I have tutored students in as part of supporting the program "No Child Left Behind" through Tutor Mates. I am passionate about physics. My motto is math is vital and important, and physics makes the world churn. It is foundational to everything we do on this planet and in this universe.I have learned that there are multiple learning styles and I like to meet students where they are to explore and bring out their learning style. This is typically a pivot point from going to struggling to grasping concepts. There is a point when the light bulb comes on, and it is an exhilarating experience for both the student and the teacher or coach.
