I graduated from college quite a long time ago but my own kids, and current students too, see me as a fun person and a kid at heart. One of the hardest things for a teacher to be able to do is relate to kids and their issues. Students can easily tell if a teacher genuinely cares or is just going through the motions of teaching. All my students know I care and they give me maximum effort in return.Before I became a teacher I was actively engaged in my own children's education. I home-schooled them for many years while running my own engineering and marketing businesses from home. My own children are either in their final years of high school or in college. My children would always tell me how great I was at teaching and I should do it full time. I finally listened to them and now enjoy every day of work. I am the head of the math and science departments at a small private school in The Woodlands. It is a wonderful school but the small size has its own challenges. I am in charge of curriculum development which can be time consuming. I have to design the curriculum to be interesting, challenging, and productive. There is no one way to teach a concept. Through the use of practical examples, multimedia, specialized worksheets and study materials, the subjects are covered without the normal objections by the students. Every day we are learning but having fun while doing it.Outside of school I like to work on cars, electrical design, and fixing anything that's broken. I also like to read textbooks, watch movies, and cook for my family. I let them do the dishes though.I'm looking forward to being your childs tutor. One textbook will never work for every student. I graduated from Shaker High School in 2015 and have since moved on to the University at Buffalo. Here, I am pursuing a mechanical engineering degree and will be going into my junior year as of fall 2017. I have experience teaching and tutoring students at an after school program I volunteered at in downtown Buffalo. I also have helped to explain and teach concepts to many other fellow engineers at my university. I feel comfortable tutoring the subjects within the realm of math and science, specifically the topics that lend themselves to mechanical engineering. Physics based subjects are definitely the most rewarding for me to teach because I feel I have a good understanding of how they work and apply to the real world and I really enjoy showing others these connections. This leads into my main teaching philosophy which is, if you commit yourself to fully understanding a topic you will never feel lost on a test. Many people try memorizing formulas which I personally find tedious and a waste of time in some cases. However, if you truly understand the fundamentals behind the formulas then you will be much more equipped with the knowledge needed to pass your exams and work through the trickier questions. When I find the time to do something outside of school related activities I enjoy woodworking and hiking. In the next few years I hope to hike the 46 highest peaks in New York, thus becoming an official Adirondack 46er.
