My name is Diana and background is in the sciences. I have tutored all ages and was a teacher for younger children. I currently work at a school as management so I am missing the teaching portion of my life. I have developed various strategies and tips not just for students but myself throughout college. What may work for one person may not work for another even from subject to subject.I am patient and work to help aid students with academic challenges and goals.In my free time I love spending time with my family and pets. I love to go outside but also enjoy cuddling up to watch a movie and nap.

I am a former high schools physics teacher and current graduate student in mathematics.I've had experience tutoring math subjects since my undergraduate days-- in a distant epoch-- and was lucky enough to teach the first AP Physics course at a high school in Florida.I believe that my approach to teaching mathematics and physics was borne out of an initial dislike and fear of the subject in middle school. Far from the 'arm-raised-straight-up' type, I was perfectly comfortable dreading being called on and relying on assured knowledge that I'd never needing such useless facts again.However, a curveball was thrown my way after reaching the 10th grade where I uncovered a nascent interest in physics. After reading A Brief History of Time and realizing that math and physics were so inextricably linked, I decided that I wanted to learn more about the field that Gauss called, "the queen of the sciences."I believe that if I an learn it, my students can learn it. It may be hackneyed, but I really do believe in the old adage that genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. In my experience, what often seems to the student a lack of ability to understand math or physics conceptually stems from easily taught (but not easily practiced) study skills.

When I was a child, I found and read the book series The Story of the World by Susan Wise Bauer. I positively loved the series and it inspired my love and interest of history. This has continued with me into adulthood and influenced my decision to pursue a bachelors degree in history. However, prior to college, I was homeschooled through high school which allowed me to be flexible and self-motivated in learning. After high school, I went on to study at a college level, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in History from Thomas Edison State University. I received many of my college credits from taking CLEP and DSST tests allowing me to graduate with a degree by the time I was eighteen. For completing my degree in this way, I received the Arnold Fletcher Award, an award for students with exceptional achievement in nontraditional learning.While studying at Thomas Edison I also had the opportunity and privilege to help coach a speech and debate group for a year, helping students improve on their speaking abilities. I also later worked as a chess instructor helping the students learn about the fundamentals of chess. Currently, I work as a substitute teacher at a private school. For the past several years I have also worked as a bookkeeper and I currently working in the finance office at a school. So, I am equipped to help students with finance and with computer application. With whatever I teach though, I believe that I should not instruct just for the purpose of people of obtaining knowledge so they can pass a test. I want knowledge that I give them to be used as wisdom for how they live life; applied knowledge. So, I hope that I have the opportunity to serve students through tutoring and help equip them for school and for life.

I completed my undergraduate degree at The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and at Thomas Edison State College in 2008. My degree is B.A. Natural Sciences and Mathematics. I completed my graduate studies at Temple University. I graduated in 2012 with a M.S. in Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs.I enjoy learning as much as possible about the world through science and mathematics. I have a passion for sharing science with others and teaching in general. I tutor all levels of mathematics and many sciences. My favorite math topics are algebra and trigonometry. I love these topics because they were my first real guides into the sciences. When I learned algebra a light bulb illuminated for me and I suddenly felt like the world made sense through math. I love tutoring because I try to supply some of that same illumination for my students. My favorite sciences are chemistry and astronomy.My tutoring style is relaxed but focused. I help students prepare a plan to achieve their academic goals, whether it be the SAT, a homework assignment or the next big test. I pride myself on my professionalism and subject matter knowledge. A typical tutoring session includes a planning portion, we will schedule out your study plan with and without me. I will offer lectures or explanations on the core concepts to help you understand why you are learning any one skill. We will spend the majority of the time working problems. You will leave each session with a multitude of carefully explained examples to help you study further on your own. I am easy to talk to and I will take the time to understand how you approach problems. Sometimes we will need to rewire your approach and I can help with that.Outside of my tutoring assignments I work full time as a pharmaceutical chemist. I am a Philly sports fanatic, I love all Philly sports! I also spend a lot of time with my partner and our 2 year old daughter.

I am passionate about helping others to learn.As a young adult, I worked leading young military men and women in my communications unit. I earned my Bachelor of English degree while in the service. I developed and operated a successful mobile academic learning center for deployed members who wanted to continue their education.After successfully completing my military obligation, I worked as an elementary school teacher and college instructor. I attended night school to earn my Masters in Education and Doctor of Education degrees. With these accomplishments in higher learning, I held positions at the college level as instructor, Academic Chairperson, Director of Education and Interim Dean. The job I enjoy the most is helping students learn.I have taught in traditional classrooms and online settings for more than eight years. My experience in tutoring includes groups and one on one sessions. Classes and sessions are culturally diverse. I implement lessons that will engage each learner. I am dedicated to helping each student reach their academic goal.

I have 2 children, ages 11 and 8. I have volunteered in their classrooms for the past 5 years. I have read children's storybooks to the class and helped the kids with arts and crafts and projects. I love it and I'm happiest with kids! I feel a sense of accomplishment when I see the light in their eyes and make them happy. I love to color, draw, read poetry, and even learn about the weather patterns! I would love to teach students these various topics, but best of all, I enjoy tutoring English. I love teaching elementary school topics and seeing children progress when they're very young. It provides a sense of accomplishment. As a child, I used to use my favorite reading books to trace their covers such as The Berenstain Bears. I started in elementary school as early as age 8, and still enjoy drawing very much. For the past year, I have been teaching Language Arts, Reading Comprehension, Grammar, and Writing online and I would love to continue teaching it on Varsity Tutors. In middle school, I loved learning about America's states and capitals. At a young age, I also have written poetry just for fun.
