I am a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio and Texas Tech University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (Early Childhood Education) and a Masters of Special Education with a focus on Autism (Autism Certificate). Since graduation, I have worked in a variety of settings with children from birth to 18 years with the majority of my experience as a teacher in public school general education/special education, Kindergarten-5th grade. While I have tutored a broad range of subjects and grade levels, I am most passionate about working with students who have special needs and who may not learn in the traditional manner. I love finding new and creative ways to reach every child, just where they are! Something I always try to do with the students I work with is to ignite a spark that makes them enthusiastic about learning. I strive to provide a solid foundation that creates a want for students to become lifelong learners. My hope is that every student I work with walks away feeling valued and inspired. I received my bachelor's in communications from the University of Maryland Global Campus while traveling the world as a military spouse. Traveling allowed me to experience different cultures and new ways of learning. I am currently working on two master's programs, one a degree in social work with the University of Texas at San Antonio. Where I maintain a 4.0 GPA after one year in program. The other is a master's in public health at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, where I am in my first semester. Since I have experience in both on campus and a distance learning, I have an edge when it comes to the type of learning needed to succeed. My experience with students started as a middle schooler who was asked to tutor a Korean boy in English. Moving on from there, I tutored informally throughout high school and college. I currently work with other graduate students. I tutor in English, communications (including media and journalism), human resources, and English as a second language. When I am not working or working on schoolwork, I enjoy spending time with my three children and grandbaby, as well as my husband. We like to travel, both in Texas, around the country, and to other continents. I look forward to productive partnerships with future students.

I am a 2024 graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio, with a BS in physics and minors in math and computer science. I am currently a 2nd year physics PhD student at Penn State. My passion for tutoring started in high school, where l tutored AP Physics 1, 2, and C, as well as AP Calculus AB and BC. I was also a tutor at Mathnasium, where I tutored algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus. I have worked with students from middle school all the way to advanced college levels. Seeing others experience that 'aha' moment when they understand a complex concept brings me such joy, and it's the reason I'm so passionate about tutoring and mentoring. My philosophy is that there is no such thing as a basic or silly question: I know what it feels like to look at a problem and not even know where to start. Education is about learning new things, and if I am able to help someone learn something new, I've achieved my goal as a tutor.

I love teaching and learning. I work very hard to always try to improve everyone and everything around me. By this, I mean that I always offer my knowledge and skills to those with whom I interact and frequently go out of my way to help those who ask. Additionally, I learn through teaching and greatly enjoy helping others increase their skills, understanding, and knowledge of the world. My background is varied. After high school, I joined the United States Marine Corps for 4 years. After training, I worked for 3 years as primarily a hazmat operator and trainer. I was also deployed to Iraq for a year during Operation Iraqi Freedom. After the Marines, I moved to the San Antonio region to attend the University of Texas at San Antonio. There, I studied Psychology (major) and Business (minor) with Honors Coursework. I made it a point to attend supplemental instruction classes and help study/teach other students. I often arranged study groups, note or course work exchanges, and one-on-one work with other students. For my electives and core curriculum, I preferred to take challenging classes such as college algebra, bio 1 and 2, general chemistry 1, and honors lectures on advanced psychology processes and pathology. As a capstone, I structured, proposed, and wrote an undergraduate thesis finding a positive relation between test anxiety and trauma-related psychopathology symptoms. I truly enjoyed learning and working in my undergraduate career.I then attended graduate school at the University of Central Florida studying Clinical Psychology. During my two years here, I studied advanced research methods, psychopathology, and evidenced-based therapy techniques. Here, I made it a point to type up my class notes to email to my cohort to help me and my fellow students learn. I also interned for 1.5 years doing psychological assessment, individual, and group counseling. Within 1 to 2 years, I hope obtain a license as a professional counselor and to continue my studies to a PhD in Counseling Psychology. On a more personal note, I am excited to work at Varsity Tutors. I like to give back to all peoples and to my community. When I think about my life and my struggles, I know that some type of tutor would have been so helpful for me. I know that my education has helped improve both myself as a person and my quality of life, and I am happy for the opportunity to assist others with their learning and education.

I have been teaching Basic Writing and English classes for several years, along with Literature courses. My experience with tutoring comes from when I was a graduate student. I worked as a tutor for the Athletic department. As a tutor, I would work with those students that had missed class the day of the lessons they needed. I reviewed papers and assessed learning. As an instructor, I learned this to be valuable in the classroom. I often held workshops that would require students to exchange their papers with one another. This would help them learn how to catch the mistakes in their own papers as they often did not see it in their own work. I will walk through the writing process with each student, until they are satisfied with the end paper. As writers we know that the hardest part of Writing is starting. I will help you through this process. I love to write, I love to teach others, and I love people!

Frequently Asked Questions

Tutors who graduated from UTSA bring firsthand knowledge of the university's curriculum, teaching styles, and academic expectations. They've navigated the same courses and challenges students face, which allows them to explain concepts in relatable ways and anticipate common stumbling blocks. This shared institutional experience creates a unique advantage—they understand not just the material, but the specific context in which students are learning it.

Tutors who attended UTSA have demonstrated mastery of their subject matter through successful completion of advanced coursework at the university level. Beyond academic credentials, they bring practical experience from having studied under UTSA's faculty and understanding the rigor of the institution's programs. Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors whose background and expertise align with your specific learning needs.

UTSA tutors excel across a wide range of subjects, including engineering, business, sciences, mathematics, and liberal arts—reflecting the breadth of programs offered at the university. Because they've completed these courses successfully at UTSA, they understand the departmental expectations and can provide guidance on everything from problem-solving approaches to writing conventions specific to your field of study.

Research on personalized learning shows that students benefit significantly from instruction tailored to their individual needs. A tutor from UTSA can draw on their own experience to show you multiple approaches to difficult concepts, helping you develop deeper understanding rather than just memorizing material.

Yes. Tutors who attended UTSA often have direct experience with the same exams, projects, and courses you're taking. They can share study strategies that worked for them, help you identify high-priority topics, and provide practice and feedback on problem-solving. Tutors who succeeded at UTSA can share concrete strategies they used to manage the university's workload and rigor. These might include time management techniques, effective note-taking methods, approaches to collaborative projects, or how to balance multiple demanding courses. Since they've applied these strategies in the same academic environment you're in, their advice is practical and proven in context.
