Hello. I am a Spanish professor with Austin Community College. I've taught Spanish at the middle school through college level for the last 15 years and I have plenty of tutoring experience.Having learned Spanish as a second language I understand a student's struggle learning the language. Students have told me I am patient and calm as a teacher. Since I have taught young people and older students I feel I have a good understanding of how to present a given concept to a specific student. I am well aware that some younger learners struggle with attention span. For this reason I use fun activities and age appropriate materials. In the past I have tutored businessmen and women who had specific goals for a trip to a Spanish speaking country. I feel comfortable teaching both adults and children. As far as materials I have plenty to offer. I designed my own language learning website that covers the grammar learned in Spanish I and II.I look forward to working with anyone who needs help with Spanish. I am punctual and professional while still keeping a relaxed attitude with my students. If you are looking for a teacher with those qualities I'd love to work with you.

My passion in helping students stems from the fact that I was once one myself, and not a very good one. College was a door to a new opportunity of learning. As soon as I became a college freshman, I saw a different world opening before my eyes. Today, I work with many diverse students in different scenarios: Pre-K to college level; foreign students needing to learn English for careers as well as scholastically; and SAT and ACT preparation for students seeking to get into college. The one thing that's common in these various scenarios is my passion to help students that are apprehensive to learn because they don't know what to do, and teach them how to break down a situation and discover for themselves how to study, learn, and find out to derive the answer for themselves. My Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Syracuse University and my Master's certificate in TEFL/TESOL from Learning Tutoring were not easy to obtain, However, that goal was worth it as they prepare me each day to to teach, interesting, diverse students, and assist them in achieving their educational goals. In addition to proven teaching experience, I have 30+ years' work experience in three different industries--banking, advertising, and hospitality. Since I am teach for a variety of accredited institutions composed of students of many ages and from diverse cultures and backgrounds, my subjects include, but are not limited to: English (verbal, written and phonics), literature, essay writing, SAT and ACT English and math, history, science, filmmaking (award winning filmmaker), acting (union actor--SAG, AEA), 2D animation, drawing, painting, and Adobe Creative Suite. My favorite subject to teach is English--phonics, verbal, reading, and literature. My teaching style is hands-on. I just don't stand or sit there and lecture. Lectures are boring. As my resume and other documents state, I have 30 years experience as a union actor in good standing. Much of this acting experience has been in improvisation and role playing. I bring a lot of role playing activities into my class, especially when I am teaching foreign adults who need to know English for their jobs/or if the relocated to the U.S. My lessons are based on the students themselves. They're tailored to student individual needs. We do a student scenario, say applying for a graduate degree scholarship. If they are employed in an English speaking environment, we might do something where they are interviewing for a promotion. My philosophy is all about the 'individual student's needs,' whether I am teaching a class of six students or one-on-one. Outside of the class, I am interested in kayaking, filmmaking, and writing scripts and plays.

Hi! I'm a freshman at Syracuse University, majoring in History and Political Science (both with concentrations in America) and minoring in Psychology. I have plans to attend law school once I graduate to study civil rights litigation. Someday I even hope to run for political office!I'm quite the busy bee, and I love it! I thoroughly enjoy having a jam packed schedule, it helps me manage my time better. On campus I'm on the executive board for the Syracuse Animal Rights Organization. Activism was always something I dabbled in, but being apart of this club has really helped me grow as not only an activist, but as a person. I'm also a DJ at two radio stations on campus (you should DEFINITELY tune in) and I'm apart of the Advocacy Committee for Syracuse University's branch of UNICEF. Next semester I'll be doing all of that AND picking up a local political office internship as well as hopefully assisting with psychology research with one of my professors! I have such diverse interests that we're practically bound to have something in common! In my little free time I can be found binge watching The Office and Parks and Rec on Netflix and drinking as much coffee and tea as humanly possible.I have big aspirations and I'm constantly striving to make them a reality, but I also really love helping people. In fact, it's one of my favorite things to do. I try my best to do it as much a possible through volunteer work and tutoring. I used to tutor when I was in high school to fellow students in algebra, statistics, english, and history. When your student finally gets it, and they have that "eureka!" expression on their face, it truly makes it all worth while. As you can probably tell I'm a pretty friendly, quirky, and open person, and if I do say so myself I think we'd be a great fit as tutor and tutoree!

I'm a 27 year-old graduate of Syracuse University with a B.S. in Information Management & Technology, and a minor in Private Music Study. After graduating, I worked as a Technology Consulting in Financial Services for a large audit firm in New York City, before moving to the Copenhagen branch for one year. While available to assist with a broad range of subjects, I especially enjoy assisting students with mathematics, physics, and English. I like to focus on building a strong foundation with the core concepts that students may be struggling with, in order to ensure they have the tools to continue their learning on to more difficult topics, or just to be able to handle any problem thrown at them involving the basic topics. Tutoring students part-time is not only a job, but I find it one of the more worth-while uses of one's time, to be able to foster an environment where students learn to think critically and analyze the situation at hand, so that they can apply these various skills and practices for the rest of their lives.

Varsity Tutors Personal Statement Hello! I'm Anupama, and I've been passionate about mathematics education for over 20 years. With dual Master's degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from Syracuse University and a BA and MA in Mathematics from Delhi University, I bring both deep subject expertise and a genuine love for helping students discover their mathematical potential. My tutoring journey began as a Teaching Assistant at Syracuse University, where I taught calculus, linear algebra, probability, and statistics to undergraduate students. Since then, I've worked extensively as a private tutor, helping students from middle school through college level master everything from basic algebra to advanced calculus. Whether a student is struggling with fractions or preparing for the SAT/ACT, I tailor my approach to meet them exactly where they are and build their confidence step by step. What sets my tutoring apart is my unique combination of mathematical expertise and real-world leadership experience. After my academic career, I spent nearly 20 years at Microsoft as a Principal Software Engineering Manager, where I mentored high-performing teams and created environments where people felt safe to ask questions, experiment, and learn from mistakes. These same principles guide my tutoring philosophyI believe every student can excel in mathematics when given the right support, patience, and encouragement. My teaching style is patient, adaptive, and focused on building genuine understanding rather than just memorizing formulas. I use real-world examples, visual aids, and interactive problem-solving to make abstract concepts concrete and relevant. I'm also comfortable integrating technology into lessons, whether that means using online tools, graphing calculators, or collaborative platforms that make learning more engaging. I specialize in: Middle School Math (Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry) High School Math (Algebra II, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus AB/BC) College Math (Calculus I-III, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Probability & Statistics) Test Prep (SAT Math, ACT Math, GRE Quantitative Reasoning) What I love most about tutoring is witnessing that "aha!" moment when a concept finally clicks for a student. I've seen countless students transform from saying "I'm just not a math person" to confidently tackling challenging problems and even developing a genuine appreciation for mathematics. My goal isn't just to help students pass their next testit's to equip them with problem-solving skills, logical thinking, and the confidence that will serve them throughout their academic and professional lives. Whether you're looking to catch up, get ahead, or simply build confidence in math, I'm here to support your learning journey with patience, expertise, and encouragement. Let's work together to unlock your mathematical potential!

Since 1992, it has been my pleasure to cultivate the minds of Americas youth. As an Alum of Teach for America, I am committed wholeheartedly to shrink the achievement gap to a minuscule number. Most of the youngsters who become behavioral challenges in our classrooms are those who have acute literacy deficiencies. Before his untimely death, I supported celebrity national literacy spokesman Issac Hayes efforts to make America 100% literate. Over the years I have worked in urban public schools with pupils who were underachievers drawn by the lures of the streets. These youths in particular led me to complete a masters degree in Business Administration. For a number of years I have been an entrepreneur, so I know firsthand what it takes to succeed in the marketplace. To that end I have developed career awareness and entrepreneurship programs for my pupils. The key to a thriving financial sector which supports our schools and neighborhoods is the cadre of educators we identify to shape future leaders. Mentoring leaders and teaching business education through my company www.ItzBiz.biz, I am confident that I would be able to translate those skills to helping Varsity accomplish their goal of being the premiere tutoring platform in the industry. Having taught students in California, New York, and Atlanta, I have a coast to coast prospective of what it takes to help youths excel. The opportunity to use my plethora of skills with Varsity Tutors is welcomed.

All of my classes have demonstrated positive growth over the course of a year.I also run a college prep clinic for students from Somali backgrounds and have done so for the past four years.I started in education through Teach for America as a Spanish and remedial English teacher at a high school in Greenwood, MS. I tutor English, Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Spanish. I personally love to teach any writing component, because I enjoy the process of creating an essay which everyone can enjoy. I consider my tutoring style to mimic that of a coach; my goal is to push your student toward a higher end. I have an ability to build a quick rapport with students and have them understand the work necessary to succeed on their chosen path.In my spare time, I like to run, read, write, and watch sports.I'm looking forward to helping your student find personal success in their academic lives!

I have recently retired from the HiTech industry as an Engineering Executive with a Professional Engineering License practicing more than 35yrs. Additionally, my MS Mechanical Engineering Degree was focused on Structural Mechanics as a specialty. Since retirement from industry, I have been a substitute High School teacher for Math and Science along with being a Varsity Tutor. Both educational roles allow me to be a mentor by helping future STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) students grow educationally, and Engineers pass their FE & PE Exams in achieving Engineering Licensure. The FE & PE License Exam Curriculum that I have developed is highly successful with over a 90% passing rate for those students tutored.
