A tech nerd who enjoys teaching in my spare time. Completing my fifth degree (third master's) at Columbia while working full-time on managing a learning platform. Teaching and helping people learn is my passion, especially in Mathematics. Mathematics is a language; I would like to teach you how to speak it. If you are interested in learning about strategies for standardized testing, let's connect. Standard testing is about developing a new skill and mindset (I know, my GRE verbal score was in the 99 percentile and I used to teach at Kaplan). Learning should be fun, so I hope that our sessions are light-hearted, insightful, and comfortable for you.

I am a rising junior at Princeton University pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in Philosophy with a certificate in Statistics and Machine Learning. I am highly passionate about education: during the academic year, I serve as a volunteer tutor for the Petey Greene Program, which provides educational assistance to those incarcerated in New Jersey prisons; after graduation, I hope to work toward becoming a high school mathematics teacher. This summer, I am interning part-time at IntegrateNYC4me, a nonprofit that seeks to integrate New York schools. I believe that quality educational opportunities should be accessible to all, and I hope to dedicate my career toward realizing this vision! My area of specialty is mathematics, ranging anywhere from basic fractions to Calculus 2. I also have experience in test prep, including two years of serving as an AP US History tutor, and am fluent in Mandarin Chinese. My hobbies include reading, running, and DJing. I love talking about popular music and, more generally, having conversations. As a tutor, I work to create a relationship with my students that is comfortable and friendly while also professional; I want my students to feel as if they can communicate openly with me about their inhibitions, and to understand that I am genuinely invested in their educational success.

I graduated from Princeton University in the Spring, where I received a B.A. in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology with minors in Global Health & Health Policy and Gender & Sexuality Studies. I have been tutoring since 2006, when I joined a program tutoring with a local middle school. Since then, I have worked with high school and college students in a broad variety of subjects. Although I am passionate about all of the subjects that I teach, I have always been especially interested in Biology, and I love working with students to see the big picture connections between the facts of life. In general, my tutoring style focuses on drawing generalizable principles out of the material to help a student internalize and fully absorb content, which I believe makes learning a rewarding activity in its own right. In my spare time, I enjoy reading science books and blogs, trying out new recipes, and exploring the many museums throughout the city.

After growing up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and attending college on the east coast at Princeton University, the warm weather of Houston is a nice change of pace! I have lived in Houston since January of 2015 and have come to love the city. At Princeton, I was a four-year member and senior co-captain of the women's crew team. My passion for the sport led me to coach both high school and middle school students in my hometown of Milwaukee, and I loved working with the students and helping them achieve their goals. I am incredibly excited to be working with students once again! Outside of work and tutoring, I love cheering on the Green Bay Packers, exploring the city and watching the food network.

As a non-native speaker of Spanish and French, I recognize the immensely positive impact learning foreign languages can have on one's life. However, learning foreign languages is a challenging, long term process that requires dedication. That dedication is not just the responsibility of the student, but of language teachers as well. As a teacher I am committed to making connections with students in a fun, positive way that fosters not just an appreciation for the language but a solid understanding of language fundamentals, such as grammar. I truly teaching and feel there is no obstacle to learning that is insurmountable. Fun is also a critical part of the process, and I always do my very best to make sure my students are having the best time possible while strengthening their language skills.

I graduated from Princeton University in 2014 with a degree in Economics. I truly love helping people learn! I believe it is important to break material in to small, understandable pieces at first to help students not feel so overwhelmed. I understand that sometimes students just need to find new ways to look at the material when they are struggling to help them better understand the concept. One must be aware that there are different ways that ideas can click and students can learn. Outside of academia I enjoy reading, yoga, and surfing.

I love education and teaching in general, but have a special passion for the maths--especially Algebra. I was valedictorian of my high school class and continued my education at Princeton University where I received an A.B in Psychology. I also completed their Teacher Preparation Program with certification to teach the Sciences and Psychology in high school and middle school, as well as all levels of elementary school. After university I joined a monastery and am now an Orthodox nun. Although I have been away from teaching for several years, I'm excited to be tutoring again. My favorite teachers were the ones who loved their subject and inspired that love in their students. That is how I hope to be inspiring my own students. I strive to be available and attentive to the specific needs of each of my students.--to give them more time and explanations in their areas of difficulty and to move at a pace that is comfortable for them. And when they are ready for it, I like to challenge them a bit with interesting problems so that their knowledge of the subject matter really solidifies and they gain confidence in their understanding of it. Also, when introducing new formulas and equations, I try to help my students understand how they are derived; I believe that this knowledge helps them apply the formulas that much better.I am open to feedback and adapting my techniques to the needs of my students. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns and to schedule a lesson.

Hello! My name is Abigail Denton, and I graduated from Princeton University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Comparative Literature. I am currently a graduate student in Miami University's Fiction MFA program, where I teach college-level rhetoric/composition and am preparing to teach creative writing. My goal is to become a college-level creative writing professor. After having peers, friends, and family seek academic advice from me in my subjects of interest for years, I have realized that education is something I am really passionate about. I believe every student has the potential to learn anything, no matter what setbacks they may have. I am here to help guide them past their obstacles.I consider myself intellectually curious, easily adaptive, and responsible. I care deeply about helping people, and I seek to be patient and compassionate in all my interactions with other people.Reading has always been a source of joy to me. I can still remember when my father first read the Harry Potter books to my sister and me. It got me started reading early, and I never stopped. I love stories because the possibilities are endless, and they give immense insight into the human experience, life, and suffering. Currently, my favorite book is Princess Bari by Hwang Sok-yong. It is a modern re-telling of a classic Korean folk-tale and involves shamanism, loss, and empowerment. Taking part in and sharing stories like that motivates me to teach, to write, and to learn.Outside of academics, I like to create. Sometimes that means baking or knitting, and sometimes that means creating a whole world for my friends to explore in Dungeons and Dragons. I love giving other people joy through the things I make.I would love to help you reach your academic potential and hopefully pass on my passion for learning through a positive learning experience!
