Hello! I am a life long learner, a passionate educator, native speaker of English, bilingual in Spanish and always on the look out for my next new favorite book. My philosophy on learning is that it should be fun! Of course, I work hard with my students, but when we are having fun, I see the learning is effortless, endless, and the student success level in my classroom soars!I knew when I was a little girl I knew wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. I LOVED "playing school" and reading and mostly having fun with my mom! This childhood of mine has shaped my teaching philosophy immensely. As I grew up, I realized not everyone has the same background. I began volunteering with my mom when I was in elementary school. I loved helping out at Special Olympics and working with students who had various disabilities. Once I was in high school, I continued volunteering and started to use my knowledge of the Spanish language to communicate with younger children in a program for students at-risk. It was a wonderful mentoring program. My students and I loved having fun together. As an aspiring teacher, I had been so impressed with how much they were growing in confidence, attention to their tasks, and becoming respectful and responsible students as well. I am now a proud mommy to two very smart, very funny, very kind little girls of my own. With both of my girls in school full time now, and boy are they reading rockstars! I am really looking forward to spending more time doing what I love-teaching! There are so many amazing things to learn and discover and I am looking forward to the next chapter in my life long learning quest and I hope you will be part of it!
Let's get started! I have helped K-2 students learn and grow for the past 15 years. I'm excited to meet your child and see how I can help them progress!
It would be my pleasure to work with you and your student to embark on this journey of learning. Before we begin I would like to introduce myself to you.I have been in education for 10 years. I was a 2nd grade Reading/ELA teacher for 5 years and currently I am an Instructional Coach for grades Kindergarten - 2nd. I am a strong believer that knowledge is power and I am a life time learner. I have a Bachelors Degree from Governors State University in General Studies, a Masters Degree from Governors State University in Urban Teacher Education, as well as, a Masters Degree in Reading with a Reading Specialist certification from Olivet Nazarene University.I take education very seriously and will do my best to work with you to ensure that your student is working at his/her highest capabilities.
I started teaching and tutoring as a retail employee in Cleveland, teaching people how to use the technology I sold. From there, I worked in the Writing Center at John Carroll, then taught composition. I taught composition while in graduate school at UW-Milwaukee, and I spent a considerable amount of time teaching technology - in a sense - through a customer service job at a big cell-phone company. I taught 5th grade in Chicago Public Schools, worked as a substitute teacher in CPS, and finally moved into a middle-school science and reading position in the northwest suburbs, where I recently began my 10th year as a classroom teacher. I love to teach, and I think that my teaching experience is diverse enough to make virtually any subject - and any audience - within reach. My favorite areas, though, are those that are fundamental to everything else (in my opinion) - reading and writing. I finished a Masters in Reading Education at Olivet Nazarene University, and I am also a certified Reading Specialist. I hope to eventually pursue a doctorate and advanced research into the complex and changing intersections between literacy and technology. To me, this is the most practical and relevant area that I can focus on, and it also happens to fit my passions and my strengths. I love to write, and I love to teach writing because of what it helps me learn about my students and about writing itself.
As a passionate educator with over 5 years of tutoring experience, I am dedicated to fostering a supportive learning environment where students can thrive academically. I hold a PhD in History of American Civilization from Harvard University, complemented by a Master's in History and another in the History of Christianity from Yale University. My expertise spans a range of subjects, including AP U.S. Government & Politics, AP World History, and ACT English, which allows me to connect with students from seventh grade to graduate level. I believe in a student-centered approach that encourages critical thinking and engagement with complex ideas, drawing on my background in social sciences and humanities. My motivation for tutoring stems from a deep commitment to helping students navigate their educational journeys and discover their potential. Outside of teaching, I enjoy exploring art history and engaging with diverse cultures, which enriches my teaching methodology and enhances my students' learning experiences.
As a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University with a Master's in Education and a Bachelor's in Secondary Math Education from Grace College, I have dedicated over 25 years to teaching and tutoring math, specializing in Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, and ACT/SAT Math preparation. My approach is centered on fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills, guiding students through their challenges with patience and humor. I believe in tailoring lessons to connect mathematical concepts to real-life scenarios, such as using sports or everyday situations to enhance engagement. Through story problems and practical applications, I lead my students through logical steps which reinforce a supportive learning environment. My goal is to empower students to see math as an enjoyable and essential tool for their future success.
I am a high school Spanish Teacher of 9 years who lived in Spain. I currently teach in a bilingual kindergarten class. I have taught beginning Spanish to advanced levels and created the AP curriculum for my former school. I got engaged in Puerto Rico and married in Mexico. I love to eat Mexican food, travel to Spanish speaking countries, and help others learn about the Hispanic culture and language. My teaching methods are communicative and content based. I love to share creative ways to remember material such as songs, rhymes, and acronyms.
My approach to teaching is rooted in patience, encouragement, and adaptability. I believe that education is not just about delivering information but about inspiring students to ask questions, make connections, and develop the skills they need to navigate life. Whether it is through engaging lessons, real-world applications, or personalized support, I aim to make learning meaningful and accessible for all students. Above all, I want my students to feel empowered. I want them to know that they are capable, that their voices matter, and that their potential is limitless. Watching students gain confidence, overcome challenges, and achieve their goals is the most rewarding part of teaching. It fuels my commitment to education and reinforces my belief that, as educators, we have the ability to make a lasting impact on the lives of our students.
I enjoy helping others to learn and acquire another language, through repetition, practice and real life situations. In addition, I like gaining repertoire with my student so they feel comfortable sharing their academic challenges so that we can overcome them together.
I am delighted to be assisting the next generation in reaching their learning goals! I have my teaching certificate and Bachelor's degree in Social Science which includes History, Sociology, Psychology, Economics, and Geography. While I love teaching every subject I'm certified under, History has always been my favorite due to how fascinating I find the development of our current time. My teaching philosophy is Social Reconstructionism because of how important it is to apply what you learn into advancing our future.
I truly enjoy designing individual lessons for each of my students! Learning is a journey! Celebrating success is a joy!
