State certified Elementary teacher (K-6) with Teacher of Students with Disabilities endorsement. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in English. Before pursuing a career in education, I attended Katharine Gibbs School of Fashion, where I obtained an Associate of Science degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising. I have more than 13 years of experience co-teaching in self-contained classrooms teaching students with disabilities. Although I love and enjoy working with children of all ages, I've developed a deeper love for students with disabilities. I believe all children are deserving of equal and fair education and that it's my responsibility to equip students with the tools they need to be successful. I am a firm believer in education and how absolutely necessary it is for an improved quality of life. Although I tutor in core subjects, I am extremely passionate about English and Literature. Most of the tutoring services I provide are to assist students in elementary and middle school, however, I have much experience tutoring undergrad and graduate students as well. I'm an advocate for building self-confidence and encouraging students to try their best all while teaching and/or re-teaching foundational skills.

I received my undergraduate degree from Northwestern University where I majored in History and Theater. After graduating from college, I worked as a professional actor and director in Chicago for three years. I decided I wanted to live abroad, so I taught English in Prague for a year, before returning to New Jersey to pursue my teaching career. I started my career in education as a middle school History teacher. From there I went back to school (Jersey City University) to get my Masters degree in Special Education and became a special education teacher.After working for several years as a special education teacher I decided to pursue my Masters of Arts degree in school administration. Since enrolling in and completing the graduate program I have had the opportunity to work in several leadership roles in public schools. I currently teach 4th grade math and science at an elementary school in Northern New Jersey. Additionally, I help organize my school district’s Special Education Department. I was first the coordinator of special education for a building servicing over 250 special needs students, with classifications ranging from Specific Learning Disabled to Autistic. From this position I transitioned into becoming a building supervisor where I was a member of the administrative team responsible for over 900 pre-kindergarten to eighth grade students. I am extremely excited to be tutoring for Varsity Tutors and to build a wonderful learning community.As a teacher resource coordinator of special education, I believe all children have the ability to learn and have the right to an appropriate education. This belief has driven me throughout my career and motivated me to become an instructional leader compassionate to every learner. This philosophy is rooted in my special education experiences as both a teacher and coordinator. As educators we must believe every student has the ability to achieve greatness and must work to insure they are afforded all opportunities to do so.Based on my previous experiences, my favorite subjects to tutor are Math and History. I also love to tutor students preparing for the SAT or ACT because I know that success on these standardized tests can unlock a great future for any child. When not working or tutoring, I enjoy playing sports, seeing theater, cooking, and reading.

I worked in research for a short period of time before I decided to pursue teaching. I took classes to earn my certificate and then completed my Masters degree in Educational Technology. I have been teaching for 10 years. At my most recent school, I taught high school Biology and AP Biology. I love working with students, helping them to figure things out, and challenging them. Every student learns differently. I enjoy tutoring because I can work with an individual student, learn how that student learns best, and really help him or her to achieve confidence and a high level of comprehension. To truly understand and love science, a student needs to be able to question effectively, problem solve, and think critically. These skills are skills that can be developed most effectively through individualized instruction. I love helping students to excel and to love science.When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our two young daughters. We enjoy spending time outside during the nice weather, going to the amusement park, playing on the playground, and taking our dog for long walks. Personally, I also enjoy reading and anything related to science.

I am a passionate educator striving for quality education and school success for my students. I currently work in the school system particularly with elementary aged students with special needs in all subject areas. My strongest subject is Mathematics and I also believe in the development of good study habits in all areas, thus I feel that students still need to be taught what is good studying, how to stay organized and focus on a study plan for success. I have been a First Grade special education teacher for 10 years. I have my Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education with a minor in Psychology. I am also pursuing my Master's degree. I enjoy teaching all subjects, especially English.

I am a certified Special Education Teacher, Certified in Elementary K-6, as well as English and Language Arts Grades 5-8. I am currently teaching in an inclusion setting in a Middle School. Within that role I work as a team with the other teacher in the room, in subjects such as ELA, Writing, Social Studies, and Science. I find I am most effective in assisting with Reading and Writing, as well as working with Students with Disabilities. I have worked in the education industry for over 5 years, ranging in ages from Pre-K to 8 th grade, in general education settings to self-contained behavioral classes.I have a strong passion for working with students of all ages and abilities. I have found that my diverse experience in working in different settings whether it is different age levels or different types of classrooms, has given me a strong ability to connect to any student I work with. In order to achieve success with my students, the first and most important thing I need to know is, "What is the best way this student can learn?" and of course knowing what interests them. When I have a gauge on what type of learner the student is, it allows me to create my initial baseline assessments and start from there. From there I establish goals and set the foundation to improve the skills that are in need of improvement. When we reach goals, we continue to create new ones and constantly find ways to challenge the student. We all must be challenged as individuals, and in particular as students, because we truly never stop learning.

Tutoring has been a passion for me since elementary school when I was first given the opportunity to aid my fellow students who were having difficulty. Since then I have always looked for ways to help those around me learn whether in professional or personal settings. I feel that learning is a major part of life, and knowledge is power. It gives me great joy to share what I have learned in life with others in order to give them the power to enjoy life a little more. Throughout the years I have helped other understand Math, English, Computer Basics and Spanish with great results with students from age 10 to 37. I earned my BA in Secondary Education with a teaching certification for Spanish for K - 12th grade from New Jersey City Universtiy. I have previously taught ESL students, computer classes, and tutored at the community college level. I've also worked as a high school Spanish teacher.Hermine Marshall once said "Teachers need to discover new perspectives and new solutions to the problems of learning, ultimately improving the learning environment, by restructuring the frame through which they perceive a problem and generating alternative metaphors." No student learns exactly the same way. Students must trust you as a tutor so they can tell you how they best learn. I always want my students to feel comfortable in their learning environment.I include exercises that are relatable for students in our sessions. I want to help students build connections and scaffold the learning. When learning a language, culture plays a huge part, so I want to relate the learning to Spanish culture as much as possible.In my spare time I enjoy painting, trekking, and soccer.
