Hi! My name is Mercy and I am currently a first-year student at MIT studying computer science and neuroscience. As of right now, I am pre-med and hope to become a pediatric dermatologist.I love working with kids and have a wide breadth of tutoring, teaching, and mentoring experience. For example, all throughout high school, I served as a volunteer at church, at my local library, and at Swedish Covenant Hospital in the Pediatric Unit. My first tutoring experience was actually in the first grade. My dad had taught me how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers before beginning the first grade. Since I was so ahead, I was allowed to tutor 1 student in a special education class. I also tutored in high school and at MIT. I am really good at tutoring because I can break down the subject matter in a multitude of ways and explain it differently each time. Additionally, I am really good at helping students make connections between two seemingly unrelated topics. Lastly, I push students rather hard. I believe in giving them the toughest and spontaneous questions possible. I believe this will help them face any difficult exam question in the future.

I am a current PhD candidate in experimental geophysics at MIT. I have successfully tutored dozens of students for the GRE; these students report not only higher scores but deeper understanding of the material, even in areas they have struggled with for years. Many of my students have not taken relevant quantitative courses for years and have forgotten much of their fundamental math skills, but after working with me for a short time, they are able to achieve great GRE quantitative scores. Students also enjoy my approach to the verbal section, where we work on decoding the questions and narrowing answer choices based on the type of question.
