I graduated magna cum laude from Lafayette College with a BS in Psychology. After completing two years in a doctoral program in clinical psychology I came to the realization that I did not want to be a clinical psychologist. I feel teaching will be a more fulfilling career for me; I am planning to be a high school/middle school math teacher.During high school, I tutored Latin and have tutored Math during high school and college. The best tutors tailor their lessons to the learning styles of their students. I enjoy finding accessible and creative approaches to simplify complex concepts for my students. My favorite pastime is Capoeira, a Brazilian martial art.

I am a recent graduate of Lafayette College with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. I served as an assistant teacher for an environmental science class and taught a civics curriculum of my own design to elementary students in Yamoransa, Ghana with the Yale Alumni Service Corps. I have also shadowed teachers at the Bronx Center for Science and Mathematics. While I tutor in a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Math, and Computer Science. I firmly believe that a quality education is key to success in life and that, with the right teachers, every student has the capacity to excel in their chosen field.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Bachelor of Arts in Art and Art History from Lafayette College in 2006. Following graduation, I worked as a Civil Engineer based in Philadelphia, PA and was certified as a Professional Engineer in 2011. After five years in the work force, I returned to graduate school to complete my Master of Landscape Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. I now work as a Landscape Designer in Philadelphia and am currently applying for licensure as a Professional Landscape Architect. I also teach as an adjunct professor at Philadelphia University in the Landscape Architecture program. Through Varsity Tutors, I tutor many subjects related to engineering, math, science, art, ecology, and the environment. I love to work with students on strategies to learn math and geometry, particularly focusing on strategies that involve physical and visual learning. I am an active and hardworking individual who loves working with others to solve problems, which directly translates in my approach to tutoring. In my spare time, I enjoy being outdoors (running, biking, hiking, gardening) and playing with my dog and cat.
Being a teacher makes me a better person. I'm always humbled by the unique brilliance of every student I work with. I believe that no one person is "smarter" or "better" than anyone else; and as the tutor, it is my job to empower students to discover their own brilliance and let it shine. My area of teaching expertise is math and science. I received my bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from Lafayette College, and received my master's in Engineering from Brown University. I then worked in various technical roles at a startup data analytics company for about 6 years. But my interests reach far beyond the STEM field. I also studied fine art for several years, and have skills with painting, sculpture, pottery, and many other crafts. I love to garden, forage wild foods, hike, and connect with nature. I have 2 Permaculture design certificates and worked in farming/gardening for a few years. (If you haven't heard of Permaculture, I highly recommend looking it up. It's awesome!)My next big life goal is to learn more about natural building - that is, building homes from materials that are abundantly available to us from the natural world, like clay, sand, straw, and even living plants! I think this endeavor will be a beautiful synthesis of my skills in engineering, art, and permaculture. Someday I hope to build my own home, and teach/tutor/empower others to do the same.
I am a junior attending Lafayette College, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience on a pre-med track. After college, I hope to earn degrees to practice pediatric neurology or psychiatry and educate our communities about the importance of physical and mental health. I have experience working with several students of diverse ages and abilities, from assisting elementary students in reading comprehension, to tutoring college students in psychology and neuroscience. I also have experience in working with the Special Needs community during the Extended School Year program and working one-on-one with children with varying abilities, allowing me to learn the importance of different teaching and communication techniques. I believe that every person has the fantastic capability to grow as a student, regardless of learning style or background. As a tutor, I'd like to provide an environment to foster this potential for growth and guide my students to become independent learners and develop the critical thinking skills that are so important in today's world. Regardless of the subject, I believe that it is crucial to identify the student's goals and the strategies that work best for the individual to achieve them. The part of tutoring that I love most is when I see a student's "aha moment" when they finally understand the material with which they once struggled. Moments like those encourage both the student and me as we work together to achieve success in the classroom. I love seeing my students become more confident as they work towards their academic and personal goals.
I am currently working towards a Mathematics Degree and a Music Degree at Lafayette College.I want to help students as many students who struggle usually struggle due to a concept being explained badly to them and finding that right way to explain concepts to people is so important and often overlooked. Being able to work with students one on one offers the best way to find that vital explanation.I tutor Mathematics spanning from Algebra to Calculus, Music Theory, and beginner Mandarin Chinese.
