I am a graduate of Emerson College where I received my B.S. in Mass Communications, and earned my M.S. from Pace University where I studied publishing. Everyone has a story to tell and some people feel they cannot express it in words. However, with patience, organization, and practice, they can become better at doing so. I have worked at a newspaper and also do medical editing. I have helped young and adult students become better writers and readers. As a result, they have increased confidence. I attended Mamaroneck High School and graduated as a member of the National Honor Society. From there, I went to Emerson College to pursue my BFA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing where I took several intensive literature, analytical writing, creative writing, and public speaking courses. My concentration was in fiction writing and analysis. I also minored in Marketing Communications where I studied social media marketing and web analytics.At both institutions, I was able to tutor several students in English mechanics, reading comprehension, analytical writing, essay structure, and story analysis and composition. Most of my experience in tutoring has revolved around helping older students particularly 11th and 12th graders, and freshman and sophomore undergraduates, but I have also tutored 9th and 10th graders.My favorite subject to tutor is literary analysis! I love talking about stories and helping students identify themes and literary elements, and I am passionate about making sure students understand stories within the historical contexts in which they were written.As for tutoring style, I am all about understanding - both as an instructor, and as a student. I am a recent graduate from Emerson College. I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing with a focus on fiction. In addition, I minored in psychology and photography. I am experienced in academic and personal essay writing as well as fiction and poetry.I tutor in English, grammar, essay-writing, American Literature (up to college-level) psychology, verbal SAT prep and lower level Spanish. While I tutor in a wide range of subjects I am most passionate about writing and literature as these are the subjects that have guided me throughout my life and to which I am most dedicated.In my free time I love to take and edit photographs, practice yoga, hike, bike, cook, bake, read, play piano, knit and watch movies.My teaching philosophy is centered around giving each student the unique attention they need. I am a senior studying Film Production at Emerson College. Though I am pursuing a career in filmmaking, I am also passionate about education. I have volunteered extensively to tutor children through various programs. At the Rosedale Achievement Center in the Bronx, I worked one-on-one with a high school student and with a middle school student. I helped them understand their school work in subjects including English, French, Algebra, Chemistry, History and Religious Studies. I also volunteered with Free Arts NYC, through which I, along with a group of tutors, taught small groups of elementary and middle school students about various famous artists and art techniques, and lead them in art projects. I have also taught swimming lessons as a Water Safety Instructor for several years; I taught children from age 4 to age 15 at Brookhaven Country Day Camp and at the Fresh Air Fund. These lessons taught me how to break down complex concepts to make them simple to understand. Furthermore, I am passionate about writing. I understand structure, conventions, and grammar of both academic and fiction writing, and I enjoy helping others improve their writing.

I have published six books of poetry and a memoir, and I'm an accomplished blogger. I've been a professor of English for 20 years, and I most enjoy working with students on creative work or essays. I'm currently working on my bachelor's degree in Media Production at Emerson College. In the past, I have worked as a tutor both at the college and high school level, offering support in writing essays. I have also worked as an English tutor in Guatemala, Puerto Rico, and at my local YMCA, and as an editor at many school papers, so I have lots of training in language and in offering essay support. While I enjoy tutoring in all subjects, I especially love English (and any type of writing), Social Studies, History, and Spanish. I'm also dyslexic, so I had to overcome a little more difficulty than many of my peers to learn how to read and write, but now those are two of my favorite things to do. I am a dedicated tutor with flexible hours. I received my undergraduate education at Eckerd College, where I received a BA in literature and creative writing, and I am currently enrolled in Emerson’s creative writing MFA. I have experience teaching in classrooms from my two years working with AmeriCorps, where I taught 7th grade language arts. I am offering tutoring, for all grade levels, in grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, literature, essay composition. I am also offering tutoring in ACT reading and GRE verbal prep.My overall favorite subject to teach is reading and literature. I feel it is one of the subjects that offers something for everyone. Improving a student’s reading comprehension, as well as finding literature that appeals to them, does more then anything else to instill a positive attitude toward education. Some of my other interests are writing poetry, chess, cooking and baking.
