I graduated summa cum laude with a Master's in Classics (a combination of history, reading comprehension and writing) from Florida State University and this degree and associated experiences has provided me with a diverse set of knowledge and skillsets. While there I developed a firm understanding of the power of education to transform individuals and help every student to grow toward their greatest potential. Though every tutoring session varies, a session may include the review of previous content, a discussion of how to improve a written essay, the proper methods to prepare for an upcoming assessment, among many other possible forms designed around individual student need. In my approach to tutoring, I utilize a Classical Education approach, which deems the goal of education to be holistic or that students improve as people while they improve their content knowledge and skillsets. I design lessons to help students improve their content knowledge while also improving their self-confidence, personal responsibility and overall positive sense of self. I am a graduate of Dickinson College and a current student at Longy School of Music of Bard College. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from Dickinson in Anthropology and Music - Vocal Performance, and am now pursuing my Master of Music degree in Voice Studies. Between graduating from Dickinson and matriculating at Longy, I worked in the Education department at Port Discovery Children's Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. There, I wrote and facilitated many programs for school and camp groups, birthday parties, Scout groups, and volitional guests. The programs' subject matter spanned all subjects from the Maryland State curriculum and Girl and Cub Scout badge requirements, from Pre-K through 5th grade. In addition, I have previous experience in educational outreach programming; camp counseling; teaching theatre classes; and tutoring. While I love teaching and tutoring in any subject, I am most drawn to English (Literature, Creative Writing, Reading Comprehension), History and Social Studies, and Music. After graduating from Dickinson College in 2016, I spent four years in the Providence Public School District, the last three of which I taught high school English. I am Latina and grew up in a bicultural and bilingual household; my mom is from Costa Rica and my dad is from the US. During my junior year of college, I studied abroad in Ecuador and Argentina. One of my most profound experiences of this time was serving as an Education Intern at Fundacin Sobran Motivos in Mendoza, Argentina, a refugee center for women who were sexually abused. I increased efficiency in the English teaching program as well as designed and implemented English classes. During college summers, I worked as a Youth Leader at Casa San Jose (a nonprofit Latino organization) in Pittsburgh, PA. I tutored Math and English, entirely in Spanish for students ranging from elementary school to high school.Upon graduation from college, I was granted a Fulbright Scholarship as an English Teaching Assistant at Universidad Industrial de Santander in Bucaramanga Colombia. At this university, I was an assistant for English classes, American Studies classes, as well as Culture classes. I have a PhD from Brown University and an MPhil from the University of Oxford, both in Classics. My area of specialty is the Late Antique Latin poet Claudian and his works. I am also the Assistant Director of the Writing Program and Writing Center at a small liberal arts college, where I teach academic writing, first year seminar, and topics in expository writing. Helping students learn the habits of mind that are needed to express and develop their thoughts at a college level is the core of my job, and something that I take great enjoyment out of. I believe that communication should not be delegated to AI but should remain a uniquely human function-- that said, writing is hard! I am a newcomer to Miami from New York City. I went to college at a small liberal arts school in Pennsylvania, where I studied Economics and played varsity soccer. Since college, I applied my Economics degree to the financial field, gaining a wealth of experience in Investment Banking and Trading, Leveraged Debt, and Private Equity for a prestigious Hedge Fund in NYC. I will be attending business school this fall concentrating in Entrepreneurship and have already been accepted into all 8 of the schools I have applied. I began my derivatives career with O'Connor & Associates, the Chicago-based pioneer of options trading and risk management becoming a floor member of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange trading single stock options and futures. My training began in the trading pit, side by side senior traders for whom I would be responsible for tracking delta positions, hedging trades, communicating with the partners, and learning options theory to prepare for a three-week intensive in house options course in Chicago with a peer group. We were close-knit, collaborative and hand-picked for what would be a rigorous and unique learning experience to set a foundation for our respective quantitative trading roles. I became a market maker, providing liquidity to the public orders, a specialist, keeping an orderly book of all public orders, and floor manager, overseeing the daily operations. The environment was dynamic, highly demanding, requiring laser focus, preparation and stamina. An integral member of the firm, collaborating with other member firms and the Board of Governors, serving on committees, worked on new business initiatives, recruiting and training new hires from top universities. At the time, O'Connor was the largest market maker in the U.S. financial options exchanges and had been looking to partner with a larger financial institution. The firm entered into a joint venture with Swiss Bank creating the opportunity to become part of a newly formed global team deployed as financial engineers in various financial centers - Chicago, Zurich, London, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong. My assignment was in the bank's headquarters of Zurich, Switzerland within the Treasury Group where I priced, hedged, executed, and made markets on OTC derivatives, structured product and warrants held by the coveted AAA balance sheet. This multi-year experience proved to be mutually beneficial both to my professional career, as it was for the bank's global securities businesses (particularly US Equities and Swiss Treasury) that I diligently represented resulting in increasing customer business and attractive risk adjusted return on capital (RAROC). My career trajectory continued to expand beyond US domestic equity markets into global markets - Asia, Latin America, Europe as well as into other asset classes FX, Commodities, Fixed Income dictated by customer investment policies, the liberalization of markets, and the respective risk books. I accepted new business roles and appointments and was later recruited to work with other global derivatives groups (Deutsche, HSBC) overseeing Corporate Derivatives programs, customer options activities, European research produced in the UK for US institutional client.
