I want to help my students find as much joy in learning the cello and its rich history as much as I do. That includes not only learning about the great composers, players and works, but the more obscure ones as well.

As a current theatre education major at Belmont University, I'm always pondering and reflecting on the why behind what I want to do. I obviously love teaching but more than that, my aspirations are to reach students on a personal level and help them, in any way I can, become the best versions of themselves. I cannot wait to be an educator so that I can do just that. I excel in and am passionate about motivating students and helping them with their organizational skills. Because of my heavy involvement in the arts, I strive to help students find what their passionate about, whatever that may be. I have experience tutoring a variety of subjects and look forward to the things I am going to learn from YOU through this process! Hello, I'm JonMichael DeAngelo, a passionate tutor with a B.A. in Entertainment Industry Studies from Belmont University. My journey led me from a focus on music to a deep appreciation for literature, and I'm currently pursuing a master's degree in this field. With experience in tutoring a variety of subjects including Creative Writing, High School English, and Middle School Reading, I aim to cultivate a supportive learning environment where students can build confidence in their reading comprehension. I believe that reading opens doors to countless stories filled with valuable lessons, and my goal is to make this process enjoyable and engaging. I am currently a student at Belmont University studying Computer Science and Audio Engineering. I am passionate about mathematics and music, and would like to share my skills with students who need help in these subject areas.

In his book Democracy and Education, philosopher John Dewey acknowledges that "since growth is the characteristic of life education is all one with growing; it has no end beyond itself. The criterion of the value of school education is the extent in which it creates a desire for continued growth and supplies means for making the desire effective in fact" (62). These words begin to define why I have chosen to devote my life to this cause. Much of our culture supports the idea that education is merely a means to an end. Many of us trudge through our years in the university with the singular goal of becoming a doctor, lawyer, accountant, or scientist, and think once we achieve this title, our education is over. Yet we couldn't be more wrong. Education is the key to the survival of democracy and the development of the self. As educational leaders John Dewey and Paulo Freire believe healthy democracy requires educated citizens capable of thinking critically and communicating their ideas both clearly and respectfully. As an educator, I believe it is my purpose to equip students to participate in democracy and see themselves as global citizens with a responsibility to their fellow human beings. In this manner, I base much of my approach to education in the theories of critical and expressive pedagogy, believing in the importance of developing the individual voice of the student in the context of the world around them.

I am a graduate of the Master's program at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, in addition to holding a BFA in Musical Theatre from Belmont University. Since graduating from high school, I have lived in a variety of places, including Nashville, Northern California, London, and, most recently, New York. Due in part to my background in the performing arts, I am most excited about teaching literature, reading comprehension, and English. I also am passionate about helping students polish essays and language skills in preparation for the SAT and ACT. I am a big believer in the values of a strong education, and am committed to helping people develop the skills they will need for the next chapter. In my spare time, I love to see live theater, attend concerts, play with dogs, and read historical biographies.

I began my career in tutoring as a peer tutor for an introductory biology course at my alma mater, Belmont University. This experience introduced me to a love for environmental education and hands on teaching, and it has encouraged me to continue work in this field. Since then, I have contributed to the environmental education programs at Warner Park Nature Center in Nashville and accepted a position in the fall as a graduate teaching assistant at Austin Peay State University, and I am excited to continue working with students through Varsity Tutors! My areas of expertise are algebra, geometry, environmental science, ecology, and organismal biology.

I am committed to serving others and guaranteeing the success of my students. My passion is helping those in need and alleviating struggle, especially with academics! I especially love working with the French language.I have just completed a Bachelor of Arts in French from Belmont University and am pursuing teaching opportunities related to this degree. I also spent a semester in Angers, France, completing classes at the University located there. I primarily focused on translation, which is one of my favorite things to do with French. I have been lucky enough to get to travel extensively around Europe, which has greatly enriched my language abilities. I have tutored French for two years and have even instructed an adult French course. I love sharing this language with others and helping others understand its many complexities!I am a great test taker and have scored very highly on the ACT, SAT, and AP French exams. I also have completed several upper level English Literature and Writing courses, which qualifies me to aid with literature analysis, essay construction, and other writing struggles. Having studied a foreign language for more than ten years, I am very attuned to the English language as well.My teaching style primarily includes a lot of visual presentation, and putting knowledge into practice through questions and activities.
