Hi, my name is Angela Larkin. I absolutely love kids and watching them grow academically, physically, and emotionally. I have been a teacher for 10 years. I have taught first grade for nine years and second grade for one. I truly have a passion for teaching and watching that little spark show up in a students eyes that they understand a concept. I would enjoy working with your child and helping them grow and master learning concepts.
I am a graduate of Virginia Tech and did my residency, internship and fellowship at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. There I received my doctorate in Clinical Psychology/Neuropsychology. Since leaving Vanderbilt, where I was a co-investigator for several medications to treat Alzheimer's and other dementia etiologies, I have worked as a private practicing Neuropsychologist and have been a college professor in Psychology at the graduate and undergraduate level. I have found in my tutoring, mentoring and teaching that professional practice and academic work provide a real-world application context to the information my students are learning. Learning facts that presented with contemporary applications "sticks" far better than simple memorization; even the most basic and seemingly mundane information is applicable in real-life. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, working on and riding motorcycles, and enjoy online gaming.

I also have a PHD in Metaphysics I have a lot of life experience in a variety of topics, farming, herbal and gardening, animal care. That doesn't mean I know everything or much of anything, but I have never enjoyed the thought of being left behind because I don't understand or haven't learned anything. I am here for the student to get through the hurdles and to keep on moving. But I enjoy teaching and helping others

I go by PV in case my name is hard for you to pronounce. I am a senior engineering major at ACU and have been tutoring students on campus for almost 5 years now. I hope I'll be able to help everyone that comes to me for help.
My goal as an educator has always been to acknowledge what my students know, and then give them tools to help them learn what they don't know. I graduated from A.C.U. in 1986 and retired in 2019. I have taught all ages and subjects. I am an Academic Language Therapist specializing in working with students with Dyslexia. In my last teaching assignment, I taught Theatre Arts to Middle School students. I helped these students produce one-act plays for competition and to perform Musicals. I love words and stories, which means I am very passionate about all things reading. Working with students through Varsity Tutors has been very rewarding. Getting to work with students of all ages who live in all parts of the nation is challenging but well worth the challenges, especially the challenge of navigating the different time zones! I look forward to the journey of learning new things alongside my students.

With that being said, it is my honor to teach your child. Our sessions will be filled with exploration, discovery, and growth. Throughout the upcoming months I look forward to the work we will do together. Thank you in advance for your continued support.
Currently, I am completing a one-year research fellowship in orthopedics at UPMC and will begin the fourth year of my medical school training next July. This is a bit ironic because I used to hate school. Past: My parents were so proud of me when I wanted to test into the gifted and talented program in second grade. They didn't know it was because of a cute girl. Surprisingly, I did quite well and was granted access to this unknown world of academics. But like the great emergence of the cicada, I would not apply myself again for another 13-17 years. Lol. I have always been interested in puzzles, games, and tinkering around with tools. Naturally, the sciences peaked my interests just enough to provoke flashes of my academic potential. I now realize that it was the rigid and non-personalized structure of education that caused me to feel so disenfranchised about learning (at least in the formal sense). From first grade to my sophomore year in college, I invested just enough effort to pass my courses. However, my love for problem solving and logistics allowed me to excel in subjects involving objective learning and assessment (math, science, etc.); that is, when I showed up to class. My greatest achievement in my early education was having earned 64 referrals to the dean in one semester in seventh grade. I failed 5 classes in my sophomore year of high school because I simply did not show up. There were many moments in which my ability to graduate on time was highly uncertain. Athletics eventually afforded me admission to college, where I played football for the University of Utah. However, a lifetime of non-existent academic work ethic culminated with dropping out from my university after two years with a 1.9 gpa. I had hoped for a future NFL career, but once again academics got in the way of my happiness. After dropping out and returning home, I soon learned the value of education while bouncing between jobs over the next 2 years. I decided to finish my degree, taking one class at a time at a community college. I had to learn how to study from scratch since I had never done so before. It was tough, but I developed strategies to simplify the material for understanding rather than memorization. Soon thereafter, I began tutoring classmates before exams, helping them understand concepts they had previously struggled with. Eventually, I enrolled into a 4-year university in hopes of pursuing my newly acquired interest in academics and medicine. Desperation revealed my passion. My passion nurtured discipline. By the time I completed my coursework at ACU, I had tutored a multitude of subjects, graduated magna cum laude with university honors, earning a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry. The only difference between me then and me now is knowing my passions and desires in life and being aware that one's experience with education, like anything else, is completely dependent upon the exposures and teachers. I teach for true knowledge and hope my story inspires others to learn without limits.
