Students anywhere from 3rd to 11th grade can benefit from a Syracuse SSAT class provided by Varsity Tutors. Students applying to private or independent schools may have to take an entrance exam, such as the SSAT, in order to be considered for admission. Whether you or hoping to enroll your student in elementary school, middle school, or high school, a Syracuse SSAT class can go a long way in putting your student on the path to success.
A Syracuse SSAT prep course is likely to be much more beneficial than if your student were to study alone. The format of the study sessions is online and collaborative, with a group of students being taught by a highly-qualified instructor. Varsity Tutors can enroll your student in a Syracuse SSAT course that will focus on the subjects and skills evaluated on this exam.
Many students will have to submit their SSAT score as part of their application to private schools. A Syracuse SSAT course is an excellent opportunity for students to gain a competitive advantage over other applicants to the same schools. The SSAT has three different versions that will be administered to students depending on the grade they will be entering: Upper Level, Middle Level, and Lower Level. Whichever level your student will be taking, we have a Syracuse SSAT course that's grade appropriate.
What will be covered during the Syracuse SSAT course?
For all levels of the SSAT, students will be tested on their math, verbal, and reading skills. A Syracuse SSAT course can give your student tips and strategies to help them improve their skills in these areas. For a more in-depth breakdown of what the student can expect to find on the test, let's explore each version of the exam and the types of questions the students will encounter at each level.
The Upper Level SSAT will be taken by students from 8th-11th grade who are seeking to enroll in private or independent high schools. The test is made up of a total of 167 questions with a time limit of 2 hours and 50 minutes for all sections combined. The Writing portion asks the student to create a written response to one of two prompts. While their answer will not be scored, your student's writing skills and persuasive writing techniques can be examined by any school to which they apply. There are also two Quantitative sections, which will challenge the student in subjects such as algebra and geometry. Both sections are comprised of 25 questions each to be answered within a 30 minute period. The Reading section will ask questions based on passages with content spanning from literary fiction to social studies and other academic fields. This section gives students 40 minutes to complete 40 questions. The Verbal section will evaluate the breadth of a student's vocabulary. The questions will also require your student to have a solid understanding of synonyms and analogies since 30 synonym questions and 30 analogy questions must be answered within the 30-minute timeframe.
The Middle Level SSAT is for students in 5th-7th grade who are looking for entrance into private or independent middle schools. This version has many similarities to the Upper Level SSAT, with 167 questions and a time limit of 2 hours 50 minutes. While the content is appropriate for the grade level, the Writing Sample section also allows 25 minutes for the student to respond to their choice between two prompts. The Quantitative Section is split into two equal part, each with 25 questions and an allotted time of 30 minutes. Elementary algebra and arithmetic are two of the subjects that are included in this section of the exam. Other than the content itself, the Reading Section and Verbal Section have the same number of questions and time limits as the Upper Level SSAT.
The Lower Level SSAT is given to students in 3rd or 4th grade who are submitting applications to a private or independent elementary school. The Quantitative section is comprised of 30 questions that must be finished in 30 minutes. Concepts such as fractions, multiplication, and division will be encountered here. The Verbal section gives students 30 minutes to respond to 30 questions that will test knowledge of topics including synonyms and analogies. The Reading portion of the exam will present the student with written passages followed by questions meant to assess the student's reading comprehension. The Lower Level also includes a Writing segment with a picture to prompt the student to write a fictional story. The student story must be written within a 15-minute timeframe.

Behind ever dedicated teacher is a dedicated student. I am a life-long learner. Life-long learning is absolutely necessary in order to keep up with the ever changing society we live in. It is my personal mission to take advantage of trainings and learning the latest teaching techniques, ideas, laws, polices and procedures to stay current in my profession in order to help my students learn to the fullest. ... Behind every dedicated teacher is a dedicated student. I am a life-long learner. I truly believe this is the only way to be a great teacher in our ever-changing world. No two students will be alike. Each year our classrooms will change. Teaching techniques, ideas, laws, policies, and procedures will forever be changing. It is up to every single teacher to take the time to learn about their students each year. With enthusiasm and excitement we should try to discover the most effective ways to meet our students' needs both as individual learners and as a classroom whole. We should know that this may require creativity, communication, and collaboration with others. Due to the changes within society, children and the world itself, I know I will always need to be a student. I will need to take it upon myself to take the time for professional growth. I also firmly believe that although I am my students' teacher, sometimes the best teachers are the students themselves. Within each student and classroom is a learning experience waiting to happen.
