This session was added to our weekly schedule because the student has an upcoming science test. We focused on photosynthesis and cell respiration as well as interdependency in ecosystems. The student was much more focused this session than he normally is. He made a good effort to answer every question and seemed to pick up on the material faster than he does. He has a good understanding of producers and consumers in a food web and knows the differences between photosynthesis and respiration, including inputs and outputs and cell organization.

The student had a calculus test on Monday that she said went well. She will get it back on Friday. There was one bonus problem with differentiating implicitly that she wanted to go over. She was able to correctly differentiate the problem! We spent most of the session reviewing chemistry. Over the last few classes, she has been learning about buffers. We went over the problems from her notes on how to make buffers and how to calculate pH changes with buffers. She did very well with these problems and picked up the concepts quickly.

Today we finished reviewing the homework in preparation for tomorrow's quiz on magnetism. The student showed a much better mastery of the material as opposed to yesterday. The first three questions regarded the right hand rule and magnitude of magnetic force. The 2nd part of the homework tested his understanding of the cyclotron problem. Here, instead of giving velocity, most of the questions gave the frequency, which, after he extensively derived, he was able to substitute it for velocity. The key to this section is to what extent he understands the connection between the variables like current wire length and velocity. I expect him to do well tomorrow.

Lots more electrostatics and circuits--the "more difficult" problems--were covered this session. She does really well with calculation work. We worked long and hard this evening in preparation for her to take a test tomorrow.

I had a good session with the student today. We covered some evolutionary topics (mainly history and origins of life), and I plan on reviewing them with him next session and starting some biological classification and megafauna next session. He seemed a little confused at times, however, he had never seen these topics before so that is to be expected.
