Recent St. Petersburg Tutoring Session Notes

Tutoring review by Mohamed in St. Petersburg, FL
We worked on converting parametric equations to rectangular equations. We solved problems from his worksheet for test review. We did review many algebraic concepts such as properties of fractions and solving quadratic equations by factoring or using the quadratic formula. At this point, he struggles mainly with projectile motion. However I gave him steps to follow for the typical questions asked in projectile motions. The session went great and we planned to meet next week.

Tutoring review by Lindsay in St. Petersburg, FL
In this session, the student and I started by working on the chemistry material that she will need to know for her upcoming chemistry test. This included talking about the chemical properties that can be used to describe/ compare/ contrast different chemicals. We then talked about converting from F to C to K for temperature conversion problems. Next we moved on to math where we started chapter 2 of her trig class. We worked on the vertex and traditional form of the quadratic formula. We put together a plan for making sure that she is moving at the same pace has her classmates.

Tutoring review by Ahmad in St. Petersburg, FL
We covered slope and the equation of a line using the y=mx+b form. From that equation we reviewed the student's homework and determined how to write the equation and identify if a line is parallel, perpendicular or neither. I had him go over the homework again to check for understanding on his own. He struggles with writing down the progress of solving the equation. He tries to do it in his head so he makes small mistakes.

Tutoring review by Lauren in St. Petersburg, FL
The student and I reviewed some older material from her calculus class that she felt a little uncertain about. We spent most of the class looking at limits in different ways. We reviewed the delta/epsilon formal proof of limits and went through what each component means and how it describes a function's behavior. We also looked at how different types of limits (removable, limits at infinity, jumps) would appear in a graph, and differentiated between horizontal and vertical limits at infinity. We worked through some example problems in her textbook, as well as reviewing some material from old quizzes/exams. She seemed much more comfortable with the graphical behavior by the end of the session.

We covered topics that the student would be talking about in class this week, including interpreting graphs, making tables and graphs for given functions, sequences, graphing linear functions, and slopes/rates of change. Some of these things we also talked about last week, so they were review.
