How can Phonics tutoring help you?

Phonics is the ability to identify the relationship between the individual sounds of a spoken language and the letters of the written language. The written English language is similar to a code. Children need to understand the sounds of letters and letter combinations in order to read and write efficiently. If your child is struggling with phonics, you may want to consider contacting Varsity Tutors to assist you in finding phonics tutoring in Dallas-Fort Worth, TX.

The majority of children begin learning phonics in kindergarten through second grade. They usually may learn the sounds of consonant letters, sounds of letters, letter combinations, and word parts ("ing" and "ed"). However, it is not uncommon for younger children to have difficulty comprehending long vowels, short vowels, syllables, consonant blends, and phoneme segmentation. If your child is lacking in their phonemic awareness and struggling in their English and reading classes, an expert phonics tutor in Dallas-Fort Worth may help your little one become successful in his or her studies.

Session Summaries by Phonics Tutors

Phonics Tutoring review by Hannah in Dallas Fort Worth, TX
This week I worked with the student for an hour. It was great to hear that she got 100% on her test that we had studied for together. We spent the hour getting ahead on homework for the upcoming section on percents. She did very well and I didn't need to help her that much with figuring out how to set up the different proportions. At the end we looked through her binder and made sure to put everything into the right spot so that nothing was left in the pockets. The student is getting much better with this.

I spent this session with the student reviewing for his final exam.  We started by reviewing the verbs endings for the preterite and imperfect tenses.  We then utilized a series of online quizzes that his teacher recommended to simulate what the student will face tomorrow.

Phonics Tutoring review by Amy in Dallas Fort Worth, TX
The student and I completed the review sections that were for homework, in preparation for a chapter test on circles on Thursday. He was also concerned about the more difficult problems they were given to try in class. We also spoke last week about how the test problems tend to be more difficult than the homework problems, therefore, I found complex problems in the text and on class worksheets for him to try. He is solid on the basics of the material, but has more difficulty when analyzing the more complex scenarios. I tried to help him see how such problems can be broken down, and advised that he thoroughly review the theorems they've learned so that he's certain of what conclusions can be drawn in various situations.

Student and tutor practiced a new Spanish dialogue. We reviewed and practiced the use of a number of reflexive verbs, using an exercise in his book. We reviewed household vocabulary and sang a children's song. Tutor assigned the introductory vocabulary from chapter four in his book, and the next dialogue.
