If you need to prepare for the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) and aren't sure where to start, Varsity Tutors can help you identify and begin with the right Jacksonville LSAT prep solution for you. Whether you will be taking the LSAT as soon as you graduate from college or you are coming back after spending a few years building your professional experience, it's essential to take the time to prepare thoroughly for what is arguably the most important test you've ever taken.
The LSAT was created to evaluate the skills deemed most essential for law school students to possess to complete their program of study successfully. Beyond graduate school, these are also the skills you will rely on daily as part of your legal practice. If there are areas you are unsure of or that you know you could use a little practice, working with professionals to prepare for the LSAT can give you the support you need to work on these goals more effectively.
The LSAT is the only admissions exam that is accepted by all ABA-accredited and Canadian common-law schools. Whether you're interested in attending the Florida Coastal School of Law or another Florida law school, a high score on the LSAT is the first step towards achieving that goal. To learn more about the format and content covered on the LSAT, and how Varsity Tutors can help you prepare, continue reading.
What can Jacksonville LSAT prep cover?
There are four sections on the LSAT: Analytical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Logical Reasoning, and Writing. The first three are all given at the same time in a multiple-choice format on a tablet device provided at the testing location. The Writing section is offered separately at a different time; however, you only have one year from your initial test date to schedule and take the final part of the LSAT.
The Analytical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension portions of the LSAT each contain one section. You will have 35 minutes to complete each of these sections. For these sections of the LSAT, you may want to review analogies, main ideas, inferred versus explicitly stated information, word, and phrase meanings in context, and a variety of other reading comprehension and analytical reasoning skills.
The Logical Reasoning portion of the LSAT contains two sections for which you will have a total of 70 minutes to complete. Your capacity to analyze, assess, and complete arguments will be measured in this section of the test. You will need to rely on a variety of skills to navigate this portion of the test successfully and leveraging the support of professional LSAT preparation resources could be invaluable in helping you work towards perfecting these.
The Writing section of the LSAT is the only portion of the test, which is not scored. It is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your writing technique to the admissions officials of law schools you are interested in attending. You will be asked to read a prompt and then choose between two courses of action or positions. There is no right or wrong option to choose from. Instead, you will be evaluated on how well you defend the choice you make based on the evidence you've been provided.
How can a Jacksonville LSAT prep class help me prepare?
Getting started with an LSAT class couldn't be easier thanks to our modular class design. Two and four-week classes are created from individual segments that cover specific content material. New sections begin each week, which makes it easy to start whenever you're ready and to find classes in areas you need to review.
The classes are held in secure online environments. No commute time makes it easy to get to your class on time and then right back to your daily responsibilities. Your instructor will deliver the content of the lesson and then may encourage peer discussion or group projects while answering individual student questions.
Taking a class is an excellent option for students who want a comprehensive review with an opportunity to cover all of the topics on the LSAT methodically with the support of a skilled instructor and a peer group with similar goals.
How is working with a Jacksonville LSAT tutor different from taking a course?
When you take a Jacksonville LSAT prep course, there simply is not the same opportunity for a teacher to give the same type of personalized instruction that a private tutor can provide. When you work with a personal instructor, they have the time to get to know your personality, learning style, and academic needs. All of this information can then be utilized as they create your individualized sessions. If you need to work on your writing technique for a few sessions before jumping to analytical skills, you can do so with ease.
Another difference between personal tutoring and taking a course is the scheduling flexibility. When you take a course, you will need to choose sessions times based on a predetermined schedule. This isn't always convenient or even feasible for some students. Working with a personal instructor allows you to schedule your sessions at times that are more convenient for you. You can meet with an instructor in the morning, afternoon, or evening throughout the week and on weekends.
Personalized instruction is ideal for those who want to ensure all of their time is spent with a laser focus on the areas they need to master and for those who need professional guidance with a flexible schedule.

...approach is always personal. I believe that everyone is capable of understanding information if it presented to them in the correct way. What the "correct way" is, isn't always clear from student to student. The first job of any teacher or tutor is to understand the student and only then can the tutor present the information in a way that connects with the student in the unique way that the student learns. Because of this,...

I tutor the LSAT because I know it's a hard test and I know what it's like to struggle with it. However I also understand the process necessary to produce better scores, and nothing is more satisfying to me than helping someone achieve what seemed impossible a few months ago.... Your score is a product of so many factors--your understanding of the material, your speed, even how accurately you bubble answers--but in the end it all comes down to whether you studied the test from every angle and put in the time necessary to get the results you want.
