If one of your academic goals is to earn a graduate degree from the University of Indianapolis or Marian University, Varsity Tutors can help you prepare for the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) with an Indianapolis GRE prep course. Your score on this exam is one of the factors taken into consideration by graduate schools across the country. However, the score you need to reach to be considered for programs can vary by school and even program type.

Many students don't realize that the GRE can be used as one of the admission criteria for most types of programs, including liberal arts, engineering, business, and even some law schools. The diversity of programs reflects not only the accuracy with which the GRE measures student aptitude but also the range of information which can be obtained from the scores of the sections of the test. It's important to note that not all programs will look at all parts of the test. Some will only look at the quantitative, others will review the verbal score, and some will take all sections into account. Because programs within a single school can have different admittance requirements, it is best to check with the head of the program you are interested in to find out what their GRE scoring requirements are.

Whether you just graduated from college or you've been in the workforce for years, the GRE can be challenging. If you are committed to working towards achieving the best possible score for an upcoming GRE, preparation with the help of professional guidance could be invaluable. Continue reading to learn more about what is covered on the GRE and how Varsity Tutors can help you with your Indianapolis GRE preparation efforts.

What can an Indianapolis GRE prep class cover?

There are three sections of the GRE: Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. In most testing locations throughout the world, the exam is computer-based. You will have 3 hours and 45 minutes to complete all three sections. The adaptive learning operation of this test evaluates your responses on the first half of a section to determine the questions you receive in the second half.

You will have 60 minutes to complete the Analytical Writing section of the GRE to receive a possible score of between 0 and 6. There are only two tasks for this portion of the test. In one task you will be asked to analyze an issue. In the other, you will be asked to analyze an argument. You will have approximately thirty minutes to complete each. Some of the skills you may want to review as part of your GRE prep include all standard writing conventions of the English language, articulating complicated concepts clearly, identifying supporting ideas, analyzing the validity of claims based on evidence, and writing clearly focused responses.

You will have 60 minutes to complete the Verbal Reasoning section of the GRE with a possible score of between 130 and 170. There are two sections with 20 questions in each section. There are three types of items in this section of the GRE: reading comprehension, test completion, and sentence equivalence. Some of the skills you may want to review as you prepare for the GRE include defining words and phrases within the context they've been used, summarization, analytical thinking, identifying strengths and weaknesses, forming conclusions, text interpretation, and evaluation, and associated reasoning skills. Working with professional resources to prepare for this portion of the test can help you identify what areas you are weakest in so you can better prepare.

You will have 1 hour and 10 minutes to complete the Quantitative Reasoning section of the GRE with a possible score of between 130 and 170. This section also has two sections with 20 items in each. The section of the GRE will assess your basic math skills, how well you understand math concepts, and your ability to use problem-solving skills and logical reasoning to solve problems with quantitative methodology. You may want to review skills associated with arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis during your GRE preparation efforts.

How can Indianapolis GRE prep help me?

Taking a GRE course or class gives you the structure you need to ensure you have the opportunity to review all areas of the GRE. Trying to piece the content together on your own can lead to missing key elements of the test. Working within a course also gives you access to an experienced instructor and a group of peers who can help support your preparation efforts.

Classes are held in a digital environment which makes it easy to access even with a busy schedule. You can choose between two and four-week sections, so you can make sure you have enough time to cover everything. New sections begin each week, which ensures you'll be able to get started when you're ready.

How is working with an Indianapolis GRE tutor different from taking a prep class?

One of the ways working with a private tutor is different than being in a class is the degree of personalized instruction which is available. When you work with a private instructor they can tailor all of your lessons to your specific learning needs. While you can ask questions in a classroom setting, the instructor must still deliver the content and also work with other students. With private tutoring, the entire session is personalized specifically for you.

With private tutoring, you can choose when you work with your instructor. When you take a prep class, you are limited to when classes are scheduled. This is ideal if you have a busy or unconventional schedule that is incompatible with class availability.
