Recent IB Social and Cultural Anthropology SL Tutoring Session Notes
The student read chapters and I helped her to formulate her thoughts for writing. She wrote down what she decided to say to prepare response to chapter questions. developed responses to two discussion posts for other classes.
Today the student and I discussed two of the readings for her psychology class. I had sent the student notes regarding the chapter on cognitive disorders, so we reviewed these, and the student asked questions about terms and concepts that were unfamiliar to her. We also went into more detail about the neurological degenerative diseases that can cause dementia (i.e. Huntington's, Creutzfeldt-Jakob, Parkinson's, etc.).
During today's session, we split our time between working on the psychology paper and preparing for the upcoming test in psychology. As for the paper, the focus was on improving flow between different sections, making the section defining bipolar disorder more thorough, and also editing for grammar and wording. Our test preparation covered cognitive disorders and eating disorders and was fairly straightforward. Overall, the session was highly productive.
The student is back from her competition and taking the midterm tomorrow, so we covered the relevant topics in object and face recognition, reading, attention, and memory. We reviewed materials from the textbook and lecture.
Today, I helped the student with an essay for his psychology class. We worked on creating a new outline for the essay, and formulating his ideas for the introduction and body paragraphs of the essay. He worked on externalizing his thoughts and then fixed grammar, punctuation etc. once he had actually put the words on paper.
The student and I worked on modules 40-46 in the psychology text book, reviewing the vocabulary and taking the quizzes at the end of the chapters that deal with expressed and experienced emotion, psychological disorders, psychoanalytical perspectives, and the humanist perspective.
