IB Economics SL Tutoring FAQ
International Baccalaureate (IB) Economics Standard Level (SL) provides you with a comprehensive introduction to the subject by covering aspects of microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics, and development economics in a single course. IB Economics expects you to master all of these topics in depth and to be able to synthesize concepts from each in order to gain a comprehensive big picture of economics. The course uses two externally-assessed exam papers and one internally-assessed portfolio to determine a student's final grade. While many economics courses may feature multiple-choice questions, IB Economics SL does not. The exam papers consist of extended-response questions and an essay, and thus requires that you must determine the correct answer to a problem and that you are able to explain the reasoning behind your answers. IB Economics SL can present you with a wide variety of challenges: you must learn to retain all of the detailed information presented in class, work with complex quantitative concepts, and express your problem-solving abilities in written form for the exams.
How should you go about studying in order to gain this specialized set of skills? Neither class-based review nor written texts focus on helping you study just the material that has you confused. Instead, these one-size-fits-all study options may ask you to demonstrate your mastery of content you already know, and breeze through the material that most eludes you. Varsity Tutors can help you connect with IB Economics SL tutoring that avoids these pitfalls and provides you with custom-tailored guidance from a knowledgeable instructor. You can work alongside educational directors to create a personal student profile that allows potential tutors to view your learning style, course concerns, testing dates, weaknesses, and more.
Your experience with IB Economics SL is unique, and at Varsity Tutors, they feel that your tutoring should be unique as well in order to be as efficient as possible. Your tutoring is customized from the moment you contact our educational directors, as they take into account your strengths, weaknesses, and concerns with IB Economics SL material when helping you to select the tutor best suited to help you. During your first IB Economics SL tutoring session, your instructor can analyze your current knowledge of economic concepts and can help you identify any weak spots or gaps in your understanding. Using this knowledge, your tutor can create a customized learning plan that addresses just the concepts on which it would most benefit you to focus. This is a highly flexible plan that you can adjust with ease.
You can adjust this learning plan to spend more or less time on a concept as you progress. Since all tutoring is conducted in a one-on-one environment, your instructor can answer your questions as soon as they arise and provide immediate feedback on your work. You can dictate your study time based on your needs. If your exam is approaching, your tutor can spend the sessions before it focused on preparing you for the questions you will face. They may provide writing assignments, test assessments, and other study materials. In addition, they can teach you valuable test-taking strategies to ensure you complete the test.
Your sessions should be convenient and your tutor will strive to ensure they are. You can meet morning, noon, or evening at the time of your choosing. In-person tutoring can take place at your home or anywhere else you prefer. Face-to-face online tutoring is an option as well.
You may be surprised how efficiently IB Economics SL tutoring allows you to work through your class material and prepare for your exams. Recent IB Economics SL Tutoring Session Notes
Studied for the student's history exam. I recommend that the student spend about 1.5 - 2 more hours studying on his own in order to be fully prepared. It was a pleasure working with the student and I wish him the best of luck.
We went through our usual math and English review. I have taught the student fairly well to the point where his answers are pretty predictable. I would like this week to be our final session.
Good progress this week. Arpeggios are still a bit of a challenge but keep working on them and they will come! Good job the Saxophone Debut book! Lots of fun! Keep working Alfred #4&5, Sueta Lesson 18 chromatics, and Lesson 20.
For this session, I worked on the student's draft. I talked about reorganizing her paper to discuss the basic theoretical models before talking about the individual coach records. This way she would not have to repeat her conclusions about each coach in several sections of the paper. I drew her attention to several repetitive grammatical errors, offered some formatting suggestions, and pointed out further redundancies. Some of the grammatical errors included issues with verb tense, article use, and prepositions choice. I also talked more about specific examples of citation--areas where more information was need or quotes could be added. I urged her to read the paper aloud to catch small grammatical errors that might otherwise fly under the radar, and notice when a pronoun could replace a proper noun.
We covered Polynomials (addition, subtraction and most especially multiplication). I noticed that when she got to practice questions on each topic she would do great. So for every session I helped her understand the underlying concept and then we would practice questions from her homework (which are completion grades) and more similar to her homework. Leaving the session I was satisfied to know that we made a lot of progress, and she was doing pretty well with polynomial questions.
The student continued to work on her research paper, focusing on how to write commentary for the evidence she presents in her paper that supports her thesis and topic sentences. She practiced a structured approach to writing while accomplishing nearly a quarter of her rough draft. We concluded the session by going through the remainder of her outline, setting up even more structure for her to use in order to complete her draft. She has decided to continue working on the rest of the draft alone and will consult me again once all the body paragraphs have been completed.
