GRE Subject Test in Physics Tutoring FAQ
The Google definition of physics is the branch of science concerned with the nature and properties of matter and energy. The subject matter of physics, distinguished from that of chemistry and biology, includes mechanics, heat, light and other radiation, sound, electricity, magnetism, and the structure of atoms. For many people, this subject may be a tough concept to grasp. Physics exams and finals within an individual class can cause students stress and anxiety, but students who wish to pursue graduate studies in physics have an even more overwhelming challenge to face: the GRE Subject Test in Physics. You can think of this exam as a cumulative test of everything you have learned about physics in your high school and college studies. In addition, you must face certain concepts you may have had little to no experience with over the course of your physics education.
Thus, it is important to approach your preparation for the GRE Subject Test in Physics in a thoughtful, careful manner, in order to combat the feelings of apprehension you may feel. This is where Varsity Tutors come in. Are you too busy for in-person tutoring sessions? Would you prefer a face-to-face online instructor? The organization's educational directors can help you connect with customized, personal GRE Physics tutoring all across the country to help you prepare for this important exam in a way that maximizes the efficiency of your review. The educational directors help you select the instructor who best suits your relative level of content mastery, your particular strengths and weaknesses, and the teaching methods you find work best for you. They are also willing to meet you where you are. If you desire evenings on a particular day, he or she will accommodate you. If you prefer an online setting because of your busy and hectic schedule, that option is available as well.
GRE Physics tutors have received stellar scores on the exam themselves, so they know exactly what material can show up on test day and the best ways to approach it. Your tutor can analyze your current abilities and the skills you will need for the test, and diagnose the areas in which review can best help prepare you for your exam. Self-identifying your own weak points can be a time-consuming and nearly impossible exercise.
A personal instructor can facilitate and expedite this process, allowing you to devote more of your energy to actually studying the material that matters most for you. Working with a seasoned tutor also dispels the need for you to face the test as a whole right off the bat; instead, you can work through granular, targeted exercises at whatever pace you naturally learn. You can receive immediate feedback on your work as you go, and any questions you have about the material will be answered on the spot. Additionally, your tutor can also share critical test-taking tips and strategies specific to the GRE Subject Test in Physics so that you can feel utterly confident in your abilities on test day. Keep in mind, these tutors have been where you are and are happy to usher you through this process.

Recent GRE Subject Test in Physics Tutoring Session Notes
This session consisted completely in new material. We covered with relative celerity Divisibility and Primes (c.13), Exponents and Roots (c.14), and Single-Variable Word Problems (c.15). She had very few major issues, so much of this will just be a matter of increasing skills that are perhaps merely atrophied.
The student and I went over the Writing section of the test and then worked on his timing. I gave him a list of practice test websites to use to hone his skills leading up to the test. He made a lot of progress and I'm looking forward to hearing how he did!
Today we covered the overall "need to know" sections of entry exam test prep including the special triangles, and two-word sentence completion tips. The student is working hard to improve her confidence, timing, and overall score, and has shown a lot of drive to obtain a perfect score. We left with a plan for future testing and study plans to go over before our next meeting.
Today, we started with math. She had some trouble with questions involving feet and inches, as she had trouble conceptualizing the heights of people expressed in these terms. We also talked about the writing section, going over format and brainstorming through a prompt.
After going over the basics of what we are looking to accomplish over the next month of tutoring, we dove right into the quantitative sections, as this is where the student indicated he believes he has the largest room for improvement.
