For this session the student and I reviewed fractions because she felt a little unsure in this area. We practiced four different levels on IXL and she really excelled and was very confident at the end.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Alyssa in Austin, TX
We started by reviewing homophones and contractions from last week. Then I had him complete a punctuation and spelling correction worksheet. He's much faster at recognizing punctuation mistakes, though we're still working on contraction usage. Next, we reviewed decimals to fractions. He remembered to reduce when seeing common factors in the numerator and denominator; we also reviewed how to find simple factors in big numbers. Then, he added mixed numbers together and did very well when simplifying again. Finally, I introduced him to PEMDAS and order of operations, which we'll continue to work on next week.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Katina in Austin, TX
We worked on adding 3 digits without regrouping and subtracting 2 digits without borrowing. He is doing better now that we are focusing on using a strategy other than tally marks. He has mastered adding 3 digits without regrouping. He has also mastered the 2 digit subtraction without borrowing, using lower numbers. We will practice 3 digit addition with regrouping next week, as well as 2 digit subtraction with bigger differences (ex. 4 or 6).

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Paul in Austin, TX
The student has a large state project due soon. I helped her start a draft. I could see that we were on the right track. We will definitely continue working on this project next session. We also practiced her multiplication and division tables. She is improving in her speed and accuracy. The next student had single digit subtraction for homework. He finished this with ease. But when I had him play a flashcard game. The student also struggled learning how to add with his fingers. I will continue working with this skill. We also played a game to reinforce decoding. He seemed to have improved his digraph recognition.
