How can a Calculus tutor help you?

Calculus is the study of mathematically defined change. While the subject is not necessarily required in daily life, it is a topic that opens you to thinking about the scientific process of analysis. The subject involves solving problems, such as inverse functions and multivariable calculus, and memorizing formulas and rules, like the general power rule, general logarithm rule, and Bernoulli numbers. This can be an overwhelming task for even the average student, but those who struggle with math may find this task more than daunting. If you are one of these students, or you are struggling through calculus, consider a new addition to your studying team: a personal tutor. Varsity Tutors' educational directors can help you find a Houston, Texas, calculus tutor who can guide you through your class.

Calculus is a difficult subject to learn because it relies on many complex rules. In order to learn these rules, you have to understand all of the concepts that go into them and where they can be applied. If you've struggled with math your entire academic career, this may be a tall order. Calculus tutoring in Houston, TX, can help assess your current understanding of math. Once your tutor knows your level of understanding, they can begin to create a curriculum that focuses on your needs. If you struggle with graphs, derivatives, maxima and minima, etc., then your tutor can cover these concepts more in depth. A classroom has a set schedule the teacher must stick to, so it can be hard to get the concepts you are confused on clarified. But with a private tutor, you can spend extra time on the areas you have issues with.

Calculus Tutoring review by Brandon in Houston, TX
The student and I went over the first half of his final exam review. It consisted of working on derivatives, product rule, quotient rule, maximums, minimums, implicit differentiation, and differentiation with trigonometric functions. The student is doing well on differentiation and is well prepared for that part of his exam.

Calculus Tutoring review by Daniel in Houston, TX
Focused primarily on the third chapter of his book, dealing with topics such as chain rule, product rule, and quotient rule for taking derivatives of functions. We discussed applications to different problems, as well as talking about how to know when to use which rule (and what order to apply them when multiple were relevant). Talked about trigonometric problems and discussed the sinusoidal function.

Calculus Tutoring review by David in Houston, TX
This was our first session since the student took his last exam before the final. He felt that he did a lot better than usual, but acknowledged that he expects to do much better on his final exam. We began by clearing up questions he had from his exam, then we proceeded to cover integration by parts. It took a little while for him to become comfortable with the process and he still needs work identifying which functions to define to make the problem convenient, but he is getting the hang of it and will be ready for the final.

Calculus Tutoring review by Aleena in Houston, TX
We reviewed the chain rule, product rule and application problems involving derivatives, and went more in depth into integration by parts and u-substitution. We also went over how to solve separable differential equations. I think she benefited a lot from the review and is deepening her understanding of these topics, but she still needs more practice, as she tends to confuse rules. The last hour was spent working out the kinks in those rules and when/how to use them.

Calculus Tutoring review by Lee in Houston, TX
The student has an upcoming test in integration. We worked our way though a packet of problems. She has the most trouble with substitution and with trigonometry, so we targeted those problems and did extra practice.

Calculus Tutoring review by Eric in Houston, TX
Using derivatives to optimize by critical points. She understood my explanations when I walked her through the problems that I could, but she felt lost when I had her try them by herself.
