What does a Buffalo GRE prep cover?
The GRE is a requirement for admission to many graduate schools in the U.S. It is administered in more than 160 countries worldwide. Accepted by thousands of colleges and universities, this standardized test measures a student's quantitative reasoning, verbal reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing skills.
The computer-based GRE consists of six sections. The first section is the Analytical Writing Section with issue and argument tasks. The other sections include two Verbal Reasoning sections, two Quantitative Reasoning sections, and an Experimental or Research section. The entire test takes about 3 hours 45 minutes. There are also breaks throughout the test time.
The Analytical Writing section is composed of two essays: an issue task and an argument task. The essays are to be written using a computer that utilizes a special program. Each essay is scored by two readers, one computerized and one human. If the two scores are within one point, the average is taken. If the two scores differ by more than a point, a third reader will examine the response. In the issue task, you will be given 30 minutes to write an essay about a particular topic. In the argument task, you'll be given an argument and asked to write an essay that critiques the argument. You will be asked to make suggestions on how to improve the logic of the argument. The time allotted for this essay is 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, the Verbal sections will test reading comprehension, vocabulary usage, and critical reasoning. Each of the two sections consists of 20 questions that must be answered in 30 minutes (or a total of 60 minutes). Each section consists of six text completion, four sentence equivalence, and 10 critical reading questions. In the Verbal sections, you must know how to summarize a passage, understand the meaning of words and sentences, and interpret meaning from context.
The Quantitative sections assess mathematical knowledge and reasoning skills. Typically, each of the two sections consists of 20 questions that need to be answered in 35 minutes (or a total of 1 hour and 10 minutes). Each quantitative section consists of eight quantitative comparisons, nine problem-solving items, and three data interpretation questions. Content areas include arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis.
The Experimental section contains new questions that are being considered for future use. Although this section doesn't count towards a test taker's score, it's unidentified and may appear similar to the scored sections. Because of this, it is advised to try your best in answering every section. Sometimes, an identified Research section is given at the end of the test in lieu of the Experimental section.
What are the benefits of Buffalo GRE prep?
GRE test preparation is not just about mastering content. It is also about learning pacing and test-taking skills. When it comes to Buffalo GRE prep, you have two choices - a prep course and private tutoring. Varsity Tutors can connect you with both. Together with other students, you will attend live sessions led by a qualified instructor where you can engage in discussions and group activities that could help you gain the knowledge and skills needed to score well on the GRE. When necessary, classes for GRE prep also include the chance to have one-on-one time with the instructor. This prep course is ideal for those who want to save money without compromising the quality of the review. On the other hand, if you want a more personalized approach, you can opt for private tutoring.
