Varsity Tutors is on hand to help you find the Boulder GMAT prep options that are right for you. The world of business can be quite competitive. Therefore, if you want to stand out in your job search, you need something that can set you apart. An MBA could be just the thing. However, most MBA programs require you to take an entrance exam known as the GMAT as a part of their selection process. As such, doing your best is important. A Boulder GMAT prep course could be just the thing to help you reach for your full potential.
If you are applying for the University of Colorado at Boulder - Leeds School of Business, you are going to need to put in the time necessary to learn the content and the best methods for taking the exam. Whether you are still an undergraduate or you have been in the workforce for years, choosing the right method of Boulder GMAT prep can make a big difference by teaching you important skills and instilling the confidence that you need to feel good about your abilities.
What Material Does Boulder GMAT Prep Cover?
The GMAT is composed of four individual sections that are meant to test a variety of skills important to the schooling you will do while working on an MBA. The four sections include Verbal Reasoning, Integrated Reasoning, Analytical Writing, and Quantitative Reasoning. With a total test time of around 3.5 hours, you will be expected to show aptitude in a variety of skills. Let's break down the individual sections a little more so that you can have a better idea of what you might expect on test day.
The Quantitative Reasoning section is made up of 31 questions and tests your abilities to problem-solve using your analytical and reasoning skills. This portion of the test also measures your ability to use data to figure out answers. You are given 62 minutes to complete this section of the test.
Verbal Reasoning has three different question types, including reading comprehension, critical reasoning, and sentence correction. You will be expected to draw inferences, evaluate arguments, and identify proper grammar and sentence structures. There are 36 multiple-choice questions in this section. You'll have 65 minutes to complete them.
With Integrated Reasoning, you are tested on your ability to synthesize and evaluate information. There are four question types, including multiple-source reasoning, table analysis, graphic interpretation, and two-part analysis. There are 12 questions total on this section and you are given 30 minutes to complete them.
The Analytical Writing portion of the test measures your abilities in written English. You'll be expected to plan and write an essay that clearly states your perspective while also developing sound arguments. You are only given 30 minutes in which to complete this portion.
One of the good things about the test is that you get the opportunity to choose one of three different sequences in which you want to take the sections. This can be very helpful to students. For example, if you would rather wait to finish the Reasoning portions of the test until you have the Analytical Writing section completed, you have that opportunity.
What Are My Options for Boulder GMAT preparation?
The first great option is a GMAT class. Classes are structured just like typical classroom-based courses, except that they are all held online. For those seeking convenience, this a great option. You can learn from an experienced instructor in the company of classmates that are in the same position as you. You can ask questions or bounce ideas off of your classmates just like you could in a more traditional classroom setting, and you can also request one-on-one time with your instructor to ask them more specific questions about the content covered in class. With new courses starting each week, it's always easy to get started.
Another great learning opportunity comes in the form of tutoring. With a Boulder GMAT tutor, you can experience one-on-one instruction from an expert in the subject. They can give you undivided attention, focusing solely on you and your learning needs for your entire session. Your tutor can come to know your specific learning style, giving you the chance to learn in a way that suits you best. Your academic mentor can adjust their content or even the way they teach it so that you can get the most out of each lesson. For instance, if you learn best by doing lots of hands-on work, your private instructor can try to incorporate your kinesthetic needs into the lessons.
Together with your tutor, you can establish learning goals and put a plan in place that helps you reach for your milestones. If you need to pay more attention to the Analytical Writing portion, for instance, your academic mentor can make sure to instruct you in the tips and techniques that you need to feel more prepared. Tutors can also provide example questions that can give you a flavor of what you will likely see on the test. They can even allow you to take entire sections, mimicking the conditions you'll see on exam day so that you can get a sense of how you will react under pressure.
Both a Boulder GMAT prep class and tutoring are great options. Each allows for more flexibility than what is allowed in most classroom settings, and each can put you on course to feeling better about your skills. Which one you will choose depends on your specific learning needs.

I graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC in 2008, the oldest English speaking acting conservatory in the world. As an educator for 20 years in both the US and Canada, I enjoying working with students of all ages. With a background in Special Education and tutoring for test prep (GED, ACT, SAT), I have a heart for those who find it difficult to succeed in the classroom. It is my passion to encourage students and help them learn strategies to succeed in their education and in life. ... All students have the ability to learn, so the challenge, as a teacher or tutor, is to understand how the student learns best. Utilizing that learning style, I desire to encourage the student and provide opportunities for the student to succeed. Beyond the current learning style, I believe it is important to equip the student with skills to learn in any classroom environment which they may encounter. Critical thinking skills are equally important to prepare the student for both classroom success and life.
