An Albuquerque Chinese course from Varsity Tutors can help you learn the Chinese language. No matter if you are studying Chinese at the University of New Mexico, a high schooler interested in Chinese at Hope Christian High School, or a professional looking to take up Chinese as a new hobby, we can help you grasp the complex Chinese language by enrolling you in a class that fits your needs.
Chinese can be a hard language to learn, even if you know some fundamentals. Furthermore, learning a language in a traditional, school-like atmosphere is not always the easiest way for someone to learn a new language. Grasping a new language requires many opportunities to practice writing and speaking the new language. If you take an Albuquerque Chinese course, you could practice writing and speaking Chinese alongside your classmates in an interactive, online environment.
Even though Chinese is a complex language, learning it could lead to many new opportunities. This is because there are many people who are native speakers. Learning Chinese could be an investment in your future goals, whether they are personal or professional. Learning Chinese could also lead you to the exploration of Eastern philosophies, like learning about Buddhism or other Eastern philosophical subjects. No matter what your reason is for learning Chinese, an Albuquerque Chinese course can assist you.
Mandarin Chinese is a great language to learn because it is the most popular in the world, with more than one billion native speakers. There are many dialects of Chinese, including Hakka, Gan, Wu, Mandarin, and Xiang, with Mandarin being the most popular dialect. Mandarin is also the official language of Taiwan and The People's Republic of China. Cantonese is the most popular dialect with people in the United States who speak Chinese.
There is only one writing system for all Chinese dialects. The Chinese written form has been around thousands of years, dating back from 1700 to 1027 B.C., when the Shang dynasty ruled. There is no form of an alphabet within the Chinese written language. The language is made up of about 50,000 unique characters. However, only about 20,000 of the characters are used consistently. In fact, most of the language is delivered by approximately 2,500 characters. Most of these characters were developed by ancient Chinese people who wanted to describe the things they saw. Because these symbols are pictorial and not letters or words, they give no hints as to how they are articulated and they must be memorized. There is a system called Pinyin, however, that can translate Chinese characters into English letters based on their pronunciation.
What might an Albuquerque course go over?
Since Chinese can be a very difficult language to learn, an Albuquerque Chinese class will go over concepts and rules that are essential for learning the language. One interesting concept is that spoken Chinese is tonal, indicating that the meaning of a word is based on the speaker's tone when saying it. The Mandarin dialect has four tones: falling, rising, flat, and falling then rising. One concept that can be difficult for native English speakers to grasp is that there are no verb inflections, articles, or plural words in the Chinese language. There is only one word form for all Chinese words. For example, there is no "s" at the end of plural words. So, there is no indication as to if a word is plural or singular. Once an English speaker grasps this concept, Chinese is a lot easier for them to understand. Yet another concept that the class will likely go over is pronouns. With Chinese, pronouns based on gender have the same character, but they are pronounced differently. Some other topics that will be covered are verbs, sentence structure, grammar, and so on. A class might also cover Chinese phrases, the history of China, and Chinese traditions and customs in order to give you a more thorough understanding of the language and culture.
How will an Albuquerque Chinese class help me learn?
Your Albuquerque Chinese class will have many engaging and convenient features that will help to keep learning as the number one priority. All of our Chinese classes are held online in a virtual classroom that features video chat and an interactive whiteboard. This gives an online class the best aspects of a traditional classroom-based course. You will learn from an instructor alongside classmates that join you in real time. You will be able to engage with and have conversations with both your instructor and classmates about the topics you are covering in that day's class and any other concepts you might be wondering about. You will also receive plenty of opportunities to practice your speaking and writing skills. Participating in a live class lets you collaborate with your classmates and instructor. Bouncing ideas off of your classmates is a great way for you to work on tricky concepts. Of course, if you are really stuck, you can always ask your instructor for assistance by requesting one-on-one time. All of our Chinese classes are set up to help you reach your fullest potential in language learning.
Enrolling in a Chinese class is easy because there are many sessions to choose from. New sections start monthly, with your choice of two-week or four-week sessions. There are also several different class times to choose from, so you can easily find a time that works with your busy schedule. No matter if you need a weekday, nighttime, or even weekend course, Varsity Tutors can help you find a time that works for you.
