Do they have an IEP or 504 plan? (We have tutors that specialize in learning differences)

The tutor that was paired with my daughter was perfect and fits Bella's needs. Bella struggles with attention and has been on a 504 plan for years. The tools used, the interaction and flexibility are priceless. I was hesitant at first but now I'd do it again and I recommend Varsity Tutors!!

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Sebastian in Cleveland, OH
We focused on the score she received on the test. Her math score went up, but her science didn't. Now we are focusing more on science so that her superscore can increase.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Kristyn in Cleveland, OH
The student completed his extra practice work this previous week and did well overall with all the sections. Reading: The student worked through a prose passage. Math: We talked about the Arc/Angle equation and exponential rules (for combining exponents with like bases). The student then worked through 10 questions with little difficulty. English: The student worked through one science passage. We talked about parallel structure, verb tense consistency and correct punctuation for combining 2 full sentences. Science: The student worked through 2 passages. He missed two questions in each passage, but finished with plenty of extra time. We reviewed the material that caused issues, as well as a review of reading different types of graphs. Essay: The student worked through and outlined four different essay prompts. He usually has little difficulty deciding on a thesis and finding support arguments. But, the student does have difficulty utilizing distinct examples to differentiate his body paragraphs. In addition to this, we also talked about attention-getters (introduction) and conclusions. Overall, it was a good session. For homework, the student has 3 passages and 1 essay to write.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Victoria in Cleveland, OH
The student had her score results from her most recent ACT this session, so we reviewed those first. She had increased her score by a couple points in each section except for English, in which she had dropped. Her overall score was one point higher than the first ACT she took. We had spent much time on English in our sessions, so we decided to renew our work on it based on her results. Her main issues in reading and math were from running out of time, so we decided to work more on pacing within these sections as well. In general, her scores in the actual test were a little lower than what I would have predicted from our sessions, so I think she will benefit from general test-day strategies. I also reviewed an essay and reading section she had done for me, both timed. Her essay was strong. My one point of feedback was that she should place her counter argument in the first paragraph, or as its own body paragraph, rather than at the end of the conclusion. In the reading section, her raw score translated to a 34, which she was happy about. In the English section, the student knows all the main grammar rules. She tends to miss questions that are based on content or that call for interpretation. Unfortunately, I cannot offer many hard-fast rules for these, but I gave her some general strategies for approaching this type of question in general. I will have her continue working on these sections timed, so that she gets as much exposure to these unique questions as possible.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Denise in Cleveland, OH
We worked on a little bit of each section. The math and science continue to be strong subjects for the student. We worked on English, focusing on identifying the issue and predicting the solution. We also did reading, focusing on inference questions and older texts. This practice also went very well, despite being challenging.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Jessica in Cleveland, OH
We worked on reviewing math subjects that the student hasn't worked on in a while, such as geometry. We did a lot of practice problems, pinpointing what subjects we will focus on more in the future. We also did a bit more science practice.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Matthew in Cleveland, OH
We spent basically the entire session on math. We covered chapters 12 and 13 of the study guide, which went over geometry and word problems. The student had forgotten many of the geometry formulas used on the test, such as the circle and quadrilateral formulas, so I made sure to review them thoroughly. I also had him mark the pages which summarized the formulas. That way he can memorize them before the test. We went over lots of angle and area problems. In word problems we covered percentages, ratios, probability, and combinations. We also showed how the plug-in method mentioned in our first math review can be used on any problem with a variable in the answer choice, even a geometry problem. In the end-of-chapter drill the student did pretty well, but needed help setting some problems up. For homework I assigned him more math homework, which we will review next time along with his previously assigned science and English work.
