Reach out to Varsity Tutors if you are interested in getting professional Washington DC Praxis prep. Students at Howard University, George Mason University, and other area universities can get professional preparation to review what they have learned. You can sign up to take a virtual class or you can get private mentoring from a professional educator.
What topics can I learn about during Washington DC Praxis preparation?
The Praxis tests measure your pedagogical and academic skills. They also measure your knowledge of specific subjects. The Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators tests, sometimes referred to as the Core tests, measure your academic skills in three subjects: reading, writing, and math. You can get tested on these three subjects on one test, or you can opt for three separate tests, which can be taken on separate days.
There are also Praxis Subject Assessments, which focus on subject-specific knowledge. These assessments also measure your subject-specific and general teaching skills. The Subject Assessments are designed for prospective educators who will teach children in grades K-12. However, there are also Praxis Elementary Education: Content Knowledge for Teaching tests, sometimes referred to as CKT tests. These tests place a focus on specialized content knowledge used in elementary education.
What are the benefits of Washington DC Praxis prep?
There are two ways students in Washington DC can prepare for the Praxis exams. Many students opt to enroll in a Washington DC prep class, while others prefer getting tutored by a private educational mentor. Both are great ways to prepare for the exam.
When taking a Praxis prep class, you can engage with other students and the instructor. Our classes are virtual. You can take them from home, as long as you have a working internet connection. You will be able to use our video chat tool to see, hear, and speak with the instructor and other students.
A class can give you many opportunities for direct participation. Not only can you participate in class discussions, but the teacher can assign a project to the class or break the class up into smaller groups and assign each one a project. Collaborating with other students can help you gain new insights and learn more. If you want more time after class to review a particularly difficult concept, you can request private time with your instructor.
Another option is signing up to get lessons from a Washington DC Praxis tutor. Private mentoring has a number of benefits, such as the ability to move at your own pace. You can take all the time you need to ask your questions. You can schedule as many tutoring sessions as you want.
Your private mentor can increase your motivation by helping you set small goals that are easily achievable. They can create a study plan that you can follow when preparing for the Praxis exams during your free time. They can recommend helpful resources and books that you can take out of your local library.
Your personal instructor can also help you improve your general test-taking skills. The Praxis exams will have time limits. It is important to know how to pace yourself when taking the Praxis tests so that you leave yourself enough time for all the questions. Your mentor can administer practice tests that mimic the time limits of the Praxis exams. They can monitor your performance and give you feedback when they notice issues which need to be corrected. They can give you advice on what to do if you are unsure of the answer to a question. Since there are no penalties for incorrect answers on the Praxis exam, it might be a good idea to take your best guess and move on to the next question.
You can meet with your instructor over the internet, on our Live Learning Platform. You will be able to interact with your instructor as if you were sitting at the same table. You can also request an in-person meeting if you so prefer.

I had a speech impediment as a child and had to attend speech therapy, so I know very well how nerve-wracking it can be to learn, and especially speak, a foreign language. But not only did I learn French, in my last job I used French often to speak with foreign government officials...
