Tutoring review by John in Plainfield, IN
The student and I practiced several math problems. The student scored about 80% correct on the problems he did during our session which I corrected and then reviewed the items with him that he got incorrect. The student understood his mistakes and overall did an excellent job. I left him 15 practice problems for homework. I told him to carry down the parentheses, if any, in the problems to help him avoid future mistakes.

The student and I picked up from where we left off, discussing min/max word problems. Then we talked about "linearization," which gave the students little problems. I also quickly went over a few other things, mainly the Intermediate Value Theorem and Mean Value Theorem.

We continued working through the multiple choice section of an old AP exam, focusing on test taking strategy and reviewing concepts along the way. Some concepts to practice are using the chain rule, and finding inflection points. If possible, the student should continue working through problems from the practice exam on her own.

Tutoring review by Kasra in Plainfield, IN
In this session, we reviewed all of Chapter 6 in order to prepare him for his exam on quadratic equations coming up next Tuesday. When we first began solving quadratic equations, he was way ahead of his class. He picked up the concepts very quickly, and continues to impress me with his confidence and poise when he approaches each problem. During our session, I had him work on the Chapter 6 Test in his textbook, and he completed every problem very well with little to no errors. He has mastered factoring, completing the square, and utilizing the quadratic formula to solve quadratic equations. Overall, I believe this student is more prepared for this test than any other we have prepared for, and I look forward to seeing how he does next week!

Tutoring review by Eric in Plainfield, IN
With the SAT coming up this Saturday, the student and I did a whole practice SAT test. In order to counteract the time management problems she ran into on the ACT, she got a digital watch and we practiced using it. It seemed to help. Her math score was good, 560, and her reading and writing were 470 and 430, respectively. To land 500s in reading and writing, she'll have to go over all the questions she missed and self correct so that she understands exactly why she missed it and how to get it right on the real test.
