Tutoring review by Angelique in Orange, VA
The student's studies have moved on to Ellipse functions. We spent much of this hour and a half working through his current homework of which he had many questions on. By alternating between the conic and the standard form he was required to complete the square of two sets of variables and determine the radius, vertices, and major versus minor axis. I was able to assist him on how to easily complete the square using the formula as well as just basic knowledge of squares. His understanding of these methods by the end of our session was much improved. He already was a good grasp on how to interpret the data he is given from the standard form to graph the ellipses. So I showed him how to determine which is affecting which axis by observing the coordinates of the vertices. Next week I would like to begin going over my review packets and determining what areas he needs more guidance in for his final.

Tutoring review by Marielle in Orange, VA
Today, we finished going through SAT Math Diagnostic #1. We then started Math Diagnostic #2 and went through question 11. The student is doing pretty well. She seems to struggle a little more with problems involving shapes or coordinate planes that involve visualization. I think if she takes the step of drawing these out, they will be much easier to attack.
