How much does a private tutor in Omaha cost?

When Varsity Tutors sets you up with a tutor in Omaha, there are several factors that can affect the price. Some of the key variables are location, the timeline of sessions, and the content that you are covering.

For example, if your student attends West Bay Elementary School or another primary school, sessions to learn about basic reading or math could have a different price than if you need help studying for a professional certification exam. You can also invite a few other students to join you in group sessions. In addition to making sessions more collaborative and interactive, this also allows you to take part in more cost-effective instruction. We will find an Omaha tutor for you or your student in as little as 24 hours, and sessions are available to fit many different budgets. With over 40,000 tutors in our network, there are as many study options as pricing options. Working with a mentor can be rather affordable, and with so many ways to learn, it is a great investment. In order to get pricing information that is as accurate as possible for your situation, contact us directly. One of our Educational Directors can give you a quote that takes your learning needs, schedule, and preferences into account when you reach out to us online or over the phone. We work with you to make sure that you get connected with a mentor who can help you reach for your full potential in a supportive environment.

How do I find a private tutor in Omaha?

While you could search for a tutor in Omaha on your own, that might involve more work than you want to handle. Searching for candidates, reviewing applications and references, and interviewing potential mentors can take up time that would be better spent studying.

When you contact Varsity Tutors to get set up with a private teacher in Omaha, we do all of the work associated with finding a tutor. Not only that, but our robust network allows us to find instructors in over 3,000 subjects. We use advanced tutor matching techniques to ensure that you work with a great tutor who's available at times that suit your schedule. If you are considering working with a mentor but you think tutoring is only for students who face academic challenges, think again. Of course, students who are having a tough time keeping up can improve their skills and knowledge in sessions with a tutor, but independent research shows that even students who are already doing well in their classes can benefit from the guidance of a mentor.

If you attend a school like Millard North High School or Creighton University and you are not being challenged in your classes, a private instructor can help you develop knowledge beyond what might be possible in class while also teaching skills that may prove valuable in future academic contexts. No matter what your needs may be, studying the content that is most relevant to your goals at a pace that suits you can make a positive difference for your grades and test scores.

What types of tutoring are offered in Omaha?

When you sign up to work tutor in Omaha, your needs dictate the format of the sessions. One-on-one sessions are a great option for many students.

In this setting, your sessions are entirely oriented around your needs. This allows you to move through content at your speed while utilizing methods that mesh with the way you process information best. There is also an option to add live group classes to your learning plan so that you can benefit from the perspectives of other students. If your student is homeschooled, we will find an Omaha tutor who is able to supplement their education as well. If your student attends in-person school part-time, their mentor can coordinate their lesson plans with their traditional courses to make sure they are covering the most relevant content. A tutor can augment what you are teaching or cover areas that you might not have as much experience teaching.

When you sign up for sessions with a tutor, you can connect with them via our Live Learning Platform, a digital classroom with engaging tools like a shared document editor and a virtual whiteboard. Additionally, our Learning Lab contains numerous resources as well, such as practice tests, video lessons, and sample problems. You are able to continue to learn and hone your skills even when you are not meeting with your instructor.

How qualified are tutors in Omaha?

When Varsity Tutors finds you or your student a tutor in Omaha, you can be confident that they are a skilled professional. Our vetting process is designed to make sure that only we only connect the finest instructors with students.

One of the key criteria that we look for is content knowledge. It is essential that each private teacher in Omaha have an outstanding understanding of the material that they teach. However, advanced knowledge of the material is only helpful if the tutor is able to teach it effectively. Therefore, we make sure each mentor has experience in tutoring and has the ability to adapt sessions to fit the pacing and learning preferences of different learners. We also think it's important that mentors have great personalities, so we look for friendly, patient tutors who love to engage with their students.

The Oklahoma City School System

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, is both the state capital and the largest city with a population of about 643,000. The greater metropolitan area has an estimated population of about 1.3 million people. The Oklahoma City Public Schools district oversees nearly 100 schools serving about 46,000 students.

Living in such a large city, it can be overwhelming for parents who are unsure of where to look to find professional tutoring for their child. Varsity Tutors can help you connect with a highly qualified Oklahoma City tutor who can help your child reach their academic potential.

A professional tutor can work with your child to prepare for one of the state or national exams or simply help them solidify their understanding of a new concept.

In addition to nationally recognized exams such as the SAT and ACT which are given to students who are preparing for graduation, Oklahoma City students also must prepare for two separate types of assessments as part of the Oklahoma School Testing Program (OSTP). These exams are given to students in grades three through eight as well as grade eleven and include general assessments which cover math, science, history, and language arts at various stages. In the eleventh grade, students are also given the College and Career Readiness Assessment (CCRA). While part of this is either the SAT or ACT, there is the additional component of the Science Content Assessment which students in other parts of the country do not have to take.

Oklahoma City has some of the best schools in the state. Below you can see how the top schools in the city compare to schools throughout the state.

Oklahoma City High School Rankings

High School Oklahoma City Ranking State Ranking AP Pass Rate
Memorial High School 1 2 74%
Classen School of Advanced Studies 2 3 43%
Santa Fe High School 3 4 69%
Harding Charter Preparatory High School 4 6 73%
Harding Fine Arts Academy 5 9 66%
Westmoore High School 6 11 49%
Deer Creek High School 7 13 61%
Dove Science Academy 8 15 28%
Carl Albert High School 9 23 35%
Southmoore High School 10 31 41%

Not surprisingly, Oklahoma City high schools have fairly low class sizes. Few of the largest schools have class sizes that even reach twenty. You can see more details about the student-to-teacher ratios of the largest schools in the city in the chart below.

Oklahoma City Student-to-Teacher Ratios

Mustang High School has a 21 1 student-teacher ratio.

Yukon High School has a 20 1 student-teacher ratio.

Moore High School has a 19 1 student-teacher ratio.

Westmoore High School has a 20 1 student-teacher ratio.

Santa Fe High School has a 18 1 student-teacher ratio.

Oklahoma State Average has a 15 1 student-teacher ratio.

Even with relatively low classroom sizes, teachers are still unable to provide personalized instruction for individual students. However, an experienced tutor can take the time to get to know your child and identify their academic strengths and weaknesses as well as their personal interests to create a learning experience that is unique for their educational needs.

While the high schools in Oklahoma City are among the most highly ranked in the state, that doesn’t mean that graduating seniors have extensive options for higher education. There are only a handful of colleges in the area and none are ranked in the top 100 for the nation. However, many nearby universities have great academic programs that are worth investigating. Session Summaries by Tutors

Tutoring review by Peter in Oklahoma City, OK
We reviewed the geometry homework and covered topics like number lines & coordinates, volume, and functions. I asked the students to do the unfinished problem from the geometry packet, to do the first practice test, and to do an online PSAT diagnostic test and SAT diagnostic for next time.

Tutoring review by Christopher in Oklahoma City, OK
This was my first tutoring session with this student, and she was very attentive. I went over a series of spelling words associated with 4th grade, and she missed a few. We did a read-aloud from a book she was reading and she went through math exercises really fast. Her writing could use a more organized structure and I want her to explain her answers orally as opposed to writing them down because there is a difference.

Tutoring review by Daniel in Oklahoma City, OK
Yesterday's session was one of the most productive ones we've had so far. The student was still having some difficulty adding and subtracting negative numbers. More than anything else, that was what was causing him to get problems wrong. We focused on arithmetic with negative numbers for a large part of the session. We used the number line to help visualize those arithmetic problems. He was able to see the main idea behind negative numbers, and he will have it mastered soon. Aside from negatives, he is mostly able to solve equations correctly. He solved some difficult absolute-value equations by himself near the end of our session.

The student is a hard worker, and I was thrilled to hear about her progress over the summer. We went over some the practice problems she had completed for our session and reviewed strategies from last semester.

Tutoring review by Cindy in Oklahoma City, OK
The student and I reviewed some of his homework. This was multiplying 2 digit numbers. I gave him reinforcement to keep his numbers organized and placing the 0 in the ones column when multiplying one factor by the tens column. Then we created a study guide for the properties of multiplication. He was able verbally explain the definitions and write them. He developed 3 out of 5 examples. Next, we discussed the order of operations, and he completed a few practice problems. I asked his grandmother to have him use the study guide and other topics for the unit test on Thursday.

The student had gotten the results from her November test, which were mixed. We spent our time today working on analogies. It was tedious work, but she made progress at understanding relationships between words.
