Tutoring review by Patrick in Jacksonville Beach, FL
Client reported no Spanish homework, so we spent the beginning of the session on English assignments concerning appositives and possessive punctuation. Found examples in Spanish textbook to show how appositives are present in both languages. Reviewed common greetings and farewells in Spanish (Buenos dias, buenas tardes, buenas noches), reinforcing previous concepts of gender-specific nouns and adjective/noun agreement with relation to gender. Client demonstrates good pronunciation. Also reinforced idea of levels of formality, and how that will affect verb conjugation. Lastly, reviewed basic format of Spanish verb conjugation.

The student and I continued through one of her assessment practice exams. She hadn't spent any time since we last met studying due to other things coming up; and it showed in our session. I emphasized the need for her to study, even a little, each day to keep the material fresh. New material we covered today entailed solving systems of linear equations. We revisited factoring and graphing inequalities. Nevertheless, she is more and more approaching the practice tests as a multiple choice test and trying to find the solution in multiple ways rather than just "not knowing" (i.e. plugging in the answers to the question); which is a good to see her doing more of.

Tutoring review by Pooja in Jacksonville Beach, FL
The student and I began reviewing for her geometry final on Wednesday. I compiled several worksheets for us to go over with each focusing on different concepts in the chapters. We completed 2 out of the 10 worksheets for today's session. The first sheet we completed was over properties of parallelograms and the student answered these questions easily. The second worksheet, however, was over similar polygons and the student had a little difficulty with this when variables were involved. After doing a few problems, the student got the hang of it and was able to answer the last 5 correctly.

Tutoring review by Jessica in Jacksonville Beach, FL
The first half of our session was spent focusing on math. Before we started on homework and studying, I had the student write down all the formulas he needs to know for chapter 10. He has a strong understanding of the subject material. The rest of our session was spent on English. With a vocabulary test next week, I gave him note cards with the words on them so he can write the definition and study with his parents. As homework, he was given a story to read and an essay prompt to answer. I helped him choose a topic, outline the essay, and create a thesis before writing the essay. We then discussed the next novel the class is reading, and I will provide him with charts to help him get a clear focus on the story.

The student started school this week, and according to his mom he has the hardest Spanish teacher. For the first trimester they are going to cover that last part of the first text book, which we have covered already. We reviewed the last two lessons of the book (irregular preterite [stem changing], double object pronouns, and comparisons of equality and inequality).

Tutoring review by Sofia in Jacksonville Beach, FL
The student and I began the session by taking stock of the assignments that she had coming up and what she needed to do. We decided to focus on finishing her colonies map project for her history class and creating an outline for her short response paper for her humanities class. She already has the materials that she needs for her religion quiz. I found an article that covered the gender ratios in the colonies, which was the main piece missing from her 13 Colonies project. I emailed her the link to the article and the information to create a citation (which she did later on her own). We then transitioned to working on romantic poets for her humanities class. We reviewed the Romantic poets and their response to and rejection of the Enlightenment. After that, we read some Emily Dickinson poems and chose ones that had overlapping themes (death) for the student to use for her paper. Our next step was to create an outline. I reminded her of the formula that she used last time for her thesis, and she worked on coming up with one that worked for the Dickinson poems. Then, we talked through her approach to the body paragraphs and reviewed the requirements for the conclusion. We discussed how to connect Dickinson back to the context of the Romantic poets and to put her significance into that context as well. I suggested that she ask herself "so what?" as a way of thinking about the overall significance.
