I am a Masters student with a 3.9 GPA studying Industrial/Organizational Psychology. I have taken many years of statistics, both at the undergraduate and the graduate level, and have years of tutoring experience. As a high schooler, I independently tutored a young girl in both reading and math for several years. Separately, I also tutored two young women for whom English was a second language. In my undergraduate career at UCSD, I was a teaching assistant for an upper division psychology course. As part of my graduate assistantship, I also assist or instruct (depending on the semester) for undergraduate statistics. I host office hours and SPSS-based labs, grade assignments, present material, provide study tools, and act as as a support system for my students. I have experience writing graduate school application essays and reviewing others'. Lastly, I have a wealth of scientific writing experience thanks to years of research and Master's thesis work.I am passionate about helping people achieve that "A ha!" moment. I have a true love of learning - it has propelled me to pursue a graduate degree and to assist others in doing the same. I enjoy building relationships with those I can assist, seeing them grow and make strides. There's nothing quite like the confusion of feeling lost in one's classes. I understand this feeling, I empathize with it, and I commit myself to lessen and, ultimately, eliminate it for others. It would be my pleasure to assist you in gaining confidence with all aspects of research methods! If you're interested, please reach out to me.

I'm a lifelong student with a B.A. from San Diego State University where I studied Psychology and electro-acoustic music. I'm hoping to return to school next fall to pursue a Master's in counseling psychology with an emphasis in creative arts therapy. I've been teaching ballet since I was 18, and have spent the past two years shifting towards educational tutoring through my profession. For three years, I've worked as a behavioral and academic tutor for students with developmental disabilities in home and classroom settings, allowing me to cultivate my skills. I'm passionate about finding creative approaches to teaching new subjects based on each student's learning style. My aim is to act as a guide for my students; teaching them to think critically and lead them to independent answers. My areas of expertise include writing and literature, psychology, and the arts. When I'm not writing about music, traveling, or reading philosophy you can find me running in the woods, teaching dance classes, and scouring my state for the best cup of coffee. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

I am a graduate from San Diego State University with a Bachelors in Mathematics. As a Mathematics for Single Subject Teaching major, I am able to utilize several different methods to help you learn the material. I'm not a boring tutor and I absolutely hate going ONLY by the book. I'll use real world examples and show you unique ways to remember any steps for any problems you are facing. You will learn the process of thinking, not just solving.Instead of showing you how to do one single problem at a time, I will show you different ways to look at a problem and figure out the best approach to solve it.I am also bilingual since Spanish is my first language. I can read, speak, and write in Spanish very well and that is another tool I have at my disposal if necessary for explaining any types of concepts.

I specialize in high-level GMAT diagnostic and execution coaching for stalled high-achievers. I don't just teach content; I identify the execution, timing, and decision-making patterns preventing score improvement and build customized strategies to break through plateaus under time pressure. After years of coaching GMAT students across a wide range of score levels, I've found that many advanced students underperform not because they lack ability, but because they approach questions inefficientlytreating each problem like a new puzzle instead of recognizing recurring execution patterns quickly and systematically. I earned my MBA from Georgetown University and worked as a former Sony engineer, bringing a data-driven and strategic mindset to every session. With 100+ five-star reviews, I've guided GMAT students to break barriersnot just raising scores, but shifting their confidence and thinking. As a result, many of my students have earned admission to elite MBA programs, including UCL

I moved to Virginia about a year and a half ago after being a Californian for most of my adult life. I received a Bachelor's Degree and teaching credential in English from San Diego State University and went on to teach 7th and 8th grade language arts in a diverse public school. I then moved north to beautiful Sonoma County where I completed a Master's degree in English literature. During my time as a graduate student, I began teaching freshman composition classes and worked with small groups of beginning writers, many of whom were the first in their family to attend college. I stayed on as an adjunct instructor teaching courses that focused on expository writing, analytical reading, research, and oral communication skills. Over the course of my 15 year career, I have worked with students from a variety of backgrounds and skill levels, including many students with unique language or learning needs. I have served as an adviser and scorer/rater for numerous written assessment tests (including district and state assessments from elementary through high school, and college entrance and exit exams), and am very familiar with the type of analytical and persuasive writing prompts that students are asked to tackle for such assessments. Despite my extensive experience with argumentation and expository texts, my first love continues to be fiction and poetry, and I would jump enthusiastically at the chance to work with students in the world of literature and creative writing. I believe that students learn best when they are invested, active participants in the learning process, and my job is to listen and guide rather than lecture. I come to our tutoring sessions with a virtual "sackful" of strategies to help you work through challenging material, and by listening, observing and motivating, I can help you access the tools that will be most compatible with your learning style.

Although I earned a B.A.in English from San Diego State University ,I have received and continue to further my education from a large, diverse group of dedicated, caring, often brilliant instructors. From elementary school through the secondary teaching program at Cal State L.A., and on to many esteemed colleagues I've encountered in the teaching profession, it is my good fortune to have been influenced and molded by an impressive parade of scholars. The foundation of my education was built by my parents, who not only instilled in me a lifelong love of reading, taught me always to treat all people with kindness and respect. While I feel at home as a tutor in history, social studies, and lower level math,I am at my most qualified and effective when teaching any facet of English Language Arts. Whether it be providing suggestions for polishing an essay, navigating the intricacies of a great piece of literature, expanding vocabulary, or merely brushing up on grammar and spelling, I just want to get to the heart of my students' needs, and make the learning experience a positive one. I would describe my teaching style and philosophy as flexible, friendly, open-minded. I prefer discussion to lecture. I can be loose and funny, or strict and serious, depending on the situation. The one on one relationship affords many different paths to success, all of them uniquely rewarding.I have myriad avocations, but I'm sure most of them inform my work in some way. I retain my affinity for most sports, major or minor, team or individual, as participant and spectator. I freely dispense baseball metaphors. Once in a while I connect with my muse to write some excellent, yet still unpublished poetry. I enjoy cooking, and look forward to entertaining family and friends on special occasions. I am an avid concert goer and collector of recorded music; I love all genres and eras. This often results in my creating compilation mix-tapes on a variety of themes. Of course, I'm trying to find the time to read the great books I haven't yet read.

I began my love for music at a young age, when my mother enrolled me in violin lessons. The search for a voice that fit my inner music was long, but worthy. I dabbled in other string and woodwind instruments throughout my adolescence, but settled on the bassoon upon beginning high school. I taught myself how to play the bassoon initially, but thrived under the direction of Valentin Martchev at San Diego State University, where I completed my undergraduate degree in Bassoon Performance. I am currently in my final year of my master's degree at Boston University, studying with Valentin's former teacher, Nancy Goeres. I am comfortable teaching all age ranges and beginner to intermediate experience levels, and have had significant experience doing so throughout the years with high schoolers, colleagues in college, and most recently grade schoolers. Though my passion is bassoon pedagogy, I am also fascinated by music theory, and have taken several extra years of it throughout my education. I offer a sensitive but motivated approach, and emphasize quality instruction and rehearsal over quantity. I look forward to connecting with new students, whether they be bassoonists or theorists!

I am fascinated by all things science, and I especially have a passion for math and physics. I earned a B.S. in both General Physics and Applied Math from San Diego State University and have a very enthusiastic and innovative outlook on learning. I'm looking to earn my Ph.D. in Physics starting in the Fall of 2015 and have been tutoring for five years at all levels. I love both math and physics and can tutor a range of math subjects as well as physics; I especially enjoy tutoring high school physics. Tutoring should be a two way street of communication and aimed at helping the student in the best way possible, since each student is unique. I feel that building a professional relationship in which the student is fully comfortable with the tutor builds the best foundation for learning, and my philosophy supports mutual respect. I like to employ a back and forth of questions that triggers the student to learn intrinsically, leading to higher retention rather than merely providing the answers. My teaching philosophy also focuses on test taking strategies and reasoning that compliments the subject leading to a very well rounded individual. I didn't always have the most motivating and passionate teachers, so it took time for me to discover my passion on my own. Hopefully as a tutor I can be the inspiration for young students to pursue the sciences early on in their careers.
