I am a former special education teacher, teaching mostly in the Chicago Public Schools. As a special ed teacher I taught all subjects in my classroom which was primarily 5th-8th grades. My teaching philosophy is to connect students academic knowledge to their personal life. I believe that by doing so students will be able to learn abstract academic concepts on a personal level. I'm a passionate learner and I love to spread the passion of learning on to other students along with quality content knowledge.I am a senior at Northeastern Illinois University Graduating in May 2017 with a Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education and a minor in middle school Math and Science. I'm a passionate teacher and I love teaching using engaging and creative technology and resources. When I'm not teaching I love playing the Cello, Flute, and Drums. I'm very adventurous and travel at any opportunity I get.

I have a strong literacy and multilingual learner background with a Master's Degree in Reading, Degree in Educational Leadership, and an EL Endorsement. I have served in education for thirty years, where I have been a classroom teacher in elementary and middle schools, as well as an EL Educator, Instructional Coach, Assistant Principal, and Principal. These experiences have provided me with a firm understanding of teaching and learning. Working in a multicultural setting throughout my educational career has deepened my respect for diversity and raised my awareness of the support systems required to meet all students' needs. It is my dream to have all students achieve to their highest potential with engaging educational opportunities.

As a dedicated educator with a Master's degree in Special Education from Northeastern Illinois University, I am passionate about fostering a supportive learning environment for all students. With over 2 years of tutoring experience and several years of classroom teaching, I specialize in subjects such as Business Statistics, Elementary/Middle Math, Special Education, and ESL/ELL. My teaching philosophy centers on personalized instruction and building strong connections with students, enabling them to gain confidence and achieve academic success. I find great joy in helping students develop their executive functioning skills, which empowers them to take ownership of their learning journey. Outside the classroom, I enjoy reading and exploring new educational methodologies, constantly seeking ways to enhance my teaching approach.

I have finished my Secondary Education Mathematics Major at Northeastern Illinois University. Student teaching with students from 8th-10th grade and tutoring a diverse groups of students in terms of age and culture at my university, I have built strong teaching skills that I can adapt based on a student's personal needs. I have also tutored and built strong math skills at my university for the following subjects: Algebra, Calculus, Trigonometry, Geometry, and Probability and Statistics. I enjoy tutoring because it is easier to teach one person at a time then to try to cover material to a large group of students. This also gives students I tutor the opportunity to stop me when the math content becomes confusing. I feel that the best way to teach a tough section in a specific math subject is to start with an example and work each part out step by step with the student, while asking guiding questions to have the student work during the learning process. New concepts in math require a lot of background math skills. If a student does not remember those skills from the past, tutoring is a great way to refresh the student's memory and bring them back on the right track. Lastly, tutoring is enjoyable because I get to make a tough subject like math easier for students to comprehend. If I do my job as a tutor to make a student understand math content, I am serving my community and building a smarter and happier environment around me.

It's a pleasure to be part of Varsity Tutors. I have more than 10 years of teaching experience. I have taught both Spanish and Italian for children from ages toddler to 8th grade. I use the TPRS (Total Physical Response and Story Telling) method, which introduces 3 structures and focuses on repetition. I also like to intertwine some games and writing using both English and Spanish. My hobbies are traveling and dancing to Latin music. I can't wait to begin this journey.
