About Me

As an educator with over 20 years of experience, including roles as a middle school language arts and social studies teacher and a K-5 principal, I am passionate about fostering a love for learning, particularly in history and civics. Holding a Master's degree in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor's in History/Secondary Education, I bring a strong foundation in pedagogy and curriculum development. My tutoring experience, which spans over 2 years, focuses on subjects including AP U.S. Government & Politics, AP U.S. History, and middle school English and math. My teaching philosophy centers on a strengths-based approach, where I assess each student's unique knowledge base and confidence level, allowing me to tailor lessons that encourage engagement and academic risk-taking. I believe in connecting historical concepts to real-world scenarios, igniting a passion for learning and empowering students to persist through challenges. My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where all students feel confident and capable of achieving their academic goals. Being someone who grew up on a farm, I enjoy bringing plants back to life and growing summer flowers and vegetables outside. I also love to read when I have time, and enjoy doing yoga and walking with my dog in the woods. I love music and going to concerts and music festivals, as well as listening to my youngest son play his guitar!
