Hello Young Scholars, I am Dr. Lindsay Carey Dixon, and I am honored to welcome and join you on your journey towards academic success. I offer over 27 years of teaching experience. My inception began in Chicago Public Schools system as an elementary school teacher in the subjects of writing, social studies and American & U.S. History. My passion for writing was embedded in my spirit when I was in the fifth grade...I knew that I wanted to be a writer and teach other kids to write and instill a true passion for writing and reading in all its literary components. I have served as an Assistant Professor of English in the collegiate realm. I am author of fiction and non-fiction short stories. I possess a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Prairie View A&M University. My teaching philosophy is true...I believe ALL students can and are excellent learners with the application of understanding and knowledge which produces wisdom, faith and confidence. I am a former professional athlete and current teacher, mentor, and coach passionate about helping students find the best possibilities for their future.I have over nine years of teaching experience, all in special education. I first fell in love with teaching while working as a paraprofessional, which motivated me to get my teaching credentials.I also started a nonprofit called UP. Mentoring that provided resources and opportunities to students from underserved communities.

Language is my life , my passion and my work. French is my native language growing up in France and, as an adult I lived 7 years in Colombia. I am certified to teach both French and Spanish languages for K-12 . I have an extended experience teaching in middle schools and high schools and also in private settings for kids, adults and corporate.In my classes , you won't feel you study the language, rather you live it through real-life situations and culture. My communicative method is vibrant, lively, interdisciplinary and motivating. I can help you reaching fluency and mastery of the language.

I am a graduate of Northern Illinois University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Education with a focus on Special Education. I spent 34 years teaching high school special education and tutoring math and retired 5 years ago. Since my retirement, I have gone back to sub at the school I last taught at and also do some private tutoring. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Math. In my experience helping struggling students, I have been able to find alternative ways to present the material so it can be easily understood.

I am an accomplished Library Media Specialist known for teacher collaboration, student involvement and technology infusion. I have taught in elementary school for 18 years. I received my Masters of Arts in Teaching from National Louis University. I also have my certification in Library Information Science.I have tutored elementary and middle school students in all different subjects, as well as tutored homebound students. I have also taught students in Beijing how to speak English. My passion is reading. I want students to enjoy a story, not just read the words.I encourage students to use critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills. I want every student to achieve personal excellence by creating a 21st Century learning environment. Diversity and empathy is something that I am very passionate about. I feel it is important to know my students as individuals so I can appropriately support and challenge them academically. Every child is unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. It is my desire to create this type of atmosphere where students can meet their full potential. Students need a safe environment where they understand that their opinion matters. My goal is to encourage students to express themselves and accept themselves for who they are, as well embrace the differences of others. I want students to know that their voice makes a positive impact on the world.In my spare time I enjoy reading, puzzles, biking, hiking and spending time with my three children.

Hi! I'm currently a graduate student at National Louis University studying for my MAT in Secondary Education, with a specialization in English. Also, I like puzzles, deconstructing other puzzles, and talk show branded ice cream flavors.

My name is Elisa, and I have an M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in reading and English as a second language. My experiences in education have led me to teach early childhood up until 8th grade. Also, I have taught fifth and third grade at a National Blue Ribbon School, and I strive to stay up to date on the best educational practices. I got trained by some of the industry's top rated professionals such as Lucy Calkins, Jeff Anderson, and Dr. Nikki Newton. Also, I integrate Dr. Carol Dewek's growth mindset research into my instruction.I hope that we can work together to help you achieve your fullest potential!

I have been a teacher for 6 years and absolutely love working with children and people of all ages! My favorite subject and hobby is reading and I try to instill the love for reading with all of my students. In my free time, I love running, being outside with my dog, going to the beach, and exercises. I will bring a positive presence to your learning experience!

I believe that each child is a beautiful and unique creation, one rooting from the beliefs and experiences of those who came before him. I see education as an opportunity to contribute to the formation of each unique individual.My goal as a teacher is to create a community of learners, both within and beyond the classroom. I provide a safe environment by establishing classroom norms, modeling positive behavior, allowing opportunities for free expression, and initiating learning. I reach out to parents and the school community using newsletters, school websites, handwritten notes, and by being present at student drop-off and pick-up, school events, and parent meetings. Parent involvement is expected. I keep both students and parents informed on our classroom happenings, invite parents in as volunteers, and ensure that students and their parents understand that we are a team working towards the same goal: the best education for that unique, individual child.My role as a teacher is to wear many hats. I must analyze situations to provide my students with the many forms of guidance that they desire and require. In my classroom, I am a facilitator, an assessor, a cheerleader, an inquisitor, an observer, and a helper. Each day, I provide my students with the support that they need.I believe that students are motivated by the opportunities and choices that are provided to them. In my classroom, learning is facilitated through thematic units that provide an opportunity for in-depth study, higher-order thinking, and cross-curricular connections.I believe that students learn best through enriching and engaging activities. Students need to be provided with a variety of activities that address the different types of learners. My students spend time working in whole group, in small groups, with partners, and individually. My students are expected to collaborate, but they are also asked to show independence.I believe that young learners, especially in our increasingly technologically-connected world, need to be provided immediate feedback and to be constantly engaged. My students will learn through center-based instruction that allows the use of hands-on learning via manipulatives, technological learning via computers and tablets, traditional paper and pencil work, guided group work, and collaborative partner work. By providing students with centers and facilitating rotations, l appeal to and maximize on the attention spans of young learners.In my classroom, each child is provided with differentiated instruction. Small groups are formed using the data received through assessments and also through my personal knowledge of the students. Each student receives his or her education at the level most appropriate for his or her academic, social, and emotional needs. Each student is considered a unique individual with something unique to offer the classroom, and not just as a piece of data from a test.I set high expectations for behavior and classroom management from the first day of school onward. My students understand the importance of being responsible, respectful, and safe. I hold each student accountable. My management techniques focus almost exclusively on positive reinforcement, providing students with the responsibility and opportunity to make decisions that will set them up for success. I believe that all students strive to do well; if a student is acting out, I look for an underlying cause. I speak personally to students to understand and prevent future negative behavior. I listen to the students’ wants, needs, and concerns.As an elementary teacher, I am responsible for providing young students with both a positive learning experience and an engaging environment. I provide this experience through modeling and communication of respect, care, patience, and safety.

Molly has been a science, math, and special education teacher for over 6 years and is passionate about helping students reach their full potential. She started teaching through Teach For America (TFA) as a Learning Behavior Specialist and Corps Member. Molly has also served as the Head of Anatomy Curriculum for Perspectives Charter Schools, responsible for developing an NGSS-aligned curriculum and implementing it network-wide, as well as the Specialized Services Lead for Perspectives Charter Schools High School of Technology, responsible for monitoring specialized services and implementing best practices in classrooms school-wide. As a TFA Corps Member, Molly served as an exemplar for the Sponsor-a-Teacher fundraising initiative. Molly holds an MAT from National Louis University that she received as part of Teach For America, and a BS in Nutrition Science from University of California - Davis. She is lucky to call Lake Tahoe, CA her hometown and loves spending her free time doing anything outside in nature!
