I have taught in elementary school for 18 years. I received my Masters of Arts in Teaching from National Louis University. I also have my certification in Library Information Science. I have tutored elementary and middle school students in all different subjects, as well as tutored homebound students. I have also taught students in Beijing how to speak English. My passion is reading. I want students to enjoy a story, not just read the words. I encourage students to use critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills. I want every student to achieve personal excellence by creating a 21st Century learning environment. Diversity and empathy is something that I am very passionate about. I feel it is important to know my students as individuals so I can appropriately support and challenge them academically. Every child is unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. It is my desire to create this type of atmosphere where students can meet their full potential. Students need a safe environment where they understand that their opinion matters. My goal is to encourage students to express themselves and accept themselves for who they are, as well embrace the differences of others. I want students to know that their voice makes a positive impact on the world. In my spare time I enjoy reading, puzzles, biking, hiking and spending time with my three children.
