Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Christie in San Marcos, TX
The student did not have any science or math homework to do tonight. We reviewed his vocabulary words from yesterday four times. By the last time he knew all 15 words. Then he worked on making a study guide for unit 3 of US history. We talked about Teddy Roosevelt and the big stick foreign policy of the US during that time. How that policy affected the building of the Panama canal and the Russian Japanese Peace treaty. We went through the vocabulary works again. Then we reviewed his science packet again. He reported that he will finish his science unit test tomorrow

Today the student and I covered the energy in a cell and the process of photosynthesis. We discussed ATP, ADP, the ATP-ADP cycle, the early experiments on photosynthesis, light, ROYGBIV, the photosynthesis reaction, the structure of the chloroplast, photolysis, the Calvin cycle, the factors affecting photosynthesis, and the structure of the leaf. We also did practice questions on these topics. Overall the session was successful and the student understood the material.

The student and I worked primarily on English. He has to give a presentation today on a poem, so we went through the poem together and discussed the poetic devices used, symbolism, theme, and tone. He also has a math quiz coming up later this week, so we reviewed circles and sideways parabolas.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Kandice in San Marcos, TX
In today's session we spent the majority of the time getting the student ready for his final exams. We created a independent study schedule for him to follow above and beyond what he was doing in school. Additionally we discussed various strategies for him to take during exams (what to do if you get nervous, writing essays, etc.). The student asked really pointed questions and is very serious about getting good grades on his exams. It is important the he continues to build his confidence and also gets lots and lots of positive reinforcement these next few weeks to encourage him to do his best.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Nicole in San Marcos, TX
During our last session, we covered evolution and its different theories. We also looked at different types or speciation. The student mentioned that on her last test, she got an 85. That was the highest grade she had ever gotten on an exam. She is now in preparation mode for final exams.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Nathan in San Marcos, TX
The student realizes it will be good for him to put more work in on math. We got through his English bookwork, and did some Latin studying (2nd declension). Most of our time was spent working on his History essay, which he had left to the last night before it was due. He had expected to get it entirely done in an hour (including research time), but it clearly needed more time than that. I encouraged him to start big projects like this further in advance in the future.
