Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Laura in Detroit, MI
The student was energetic and upbeat during our session, a positive change from Monday's session. He proudly explained that he had gotten all his work done on Monday night and that he had done pretty well on the quizzes and test on Tuesday. However, he did agree with me that it would have been better if he had started this work over the weekend so he wouldn't have needed to stay up so late to complete it on Monday. He also agreed that using a study schedule would have prevented the issue of not realizing until the last minute that he had so much work to do on Monday night. He made up a history essay after school on Thursday. The last piece of makeup work he has left to complete appears to be a math binder check. He would have turned in his math binder on the day of a quiz, but he was absent. He made up the quiz, but forgot about the binder check. He emailed his teacher about this and plans to turn in his binder on the next school day. He did get confirmation from his English teacher that the essay won't be counted as late. Unfortunately, he did not get credit for two Spanish assignments because his teacher wanted them turned in on time. The student made study schedule through next Tuesday, spacing out his workload evenly across the long weekend. His study schedule includes extra time to review concepts in depth in physics and math, in line with his semester goal to "study to understand" vs. "study to know." He also added a note in his planner to make a new study schedule on his own on Tuesday night when he is assigned new work. We discussed ways to "make up for" the effects of his absences on his grades, especially making sure he does any extra credit that may be assigned in the future. He predicts he may get extra credit assignments over spring break.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Cyna in Detroit, MI
The student and I reviewed all the progress he's made in the last 3 weeks since we've met. I gave him a short assignment of writing a 750 word essay reflecting over his progress and personal growth, as well as any new goals he may have for the future. I hope to do this monthly so he can keep a close eye on his work so he knows exactly where he's headed.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by William in Detroit, MI
We accomplished a great deal this afternoon. The student completed several assignments for English, and made some very good progress with two long-range projects for History. The student asked me to proofread her journal entry for English before she submitted it. It was a delightful and detail-filled narrative about her childhood dream of naming a cat, and I was impressed with her writing style. Her writing flows very well and is mechanically excellent. She has an oral presentation for U.S History, which is due on Tuesday. Together we brainstormed how she would present her lesson, and she completed more than half of the outline that she will use to organize this presentation. We will be able to complete this task in our session on Monday. I am very pleased to see the student's dedication and perseverance.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Jennifer in Detroit, MI
The tutoring session began with taking Science notes. I have been working a lot with him on note-taking skills in this subject. Today he did a great job with taking the notes with little of my assistance. Afterwards, he completed an open-note science quiz, which he did very well on. This shows that the student's note-taking is improving greatly. Additionally, we worked on Math (polynomials). I left the student with a list of work that he should try to complete before our next session. His overall organization and planning skills have been improving.
