If you want professional assistance with your Pittsburgh NCLEX preparation, Varsity Tutors provides two great services to help you out. First, we can enroll you in a comprehensive Pittsburgh NCLEX prep class that covers everything you'll want to know prior to taking the test. Second, we can find you a private Pittsburgh NCLEX tutor who can provide individualized attention as you pursue academic success. Both services can be great ways to study for a standardized exam, and some students combine them to build their self-confidence heading into the exam.
The NCLEX is a standardized exam designed to assess whether entry-level nurses have the proficiency required to competently carry out their professional responsibilities. It is cumulative, meaning that every topic you've studied at a local nursing program at the University of Pittsburgh or Duquesne University is fair game. If the sheer volume of material has you feeling discouraged, keep reading to learn more about how we can help you study for your exam.
What kinds of topics does my Pittsburgh NCLEX prep need to cover?
There are actually two separate NCLEX tests: the NCLEX-PN for Practical and Vocational Nurses and the NCLEX-RN for Registered Nurses. Many topics appear on both tests, including physiological integrity, psychosocial integrity, health promotion and maintenance, infection control, and patient comfort. Additional topics such as care management (NCLEX-RN) and coordinated care (NCLEX-PN) appear only on one of the tests. Both tests also expect you to be able to read graphs and glean information from audio recordings and video. Should you have any questions about any of these topics, a professional instructor can be a valuable resource to draw on.
You might also want to go over the structure of the NCLEX during your test prep. Both tests use Computerized-Adaptive Testing (CAT), which simply means that the computer selects exam items according to your previous responses. This makes the NCLEX extremely variable, as the NCLEX-RN can contain anywhere from 75-265 questions while the NCLEX-PN ranges from 85-205. The best thing to do is to take a deep breath and focus on the item in front of you, as there's no way to tell how many questions are left or how you're doing thus far.
What specific advantages does each Pittsburgh NCLEX prep service offer?
As stated above, we can either enroll you in a Pittsburgh NCLEX prep course or find you a private instructor. If you opt for a course, you'll attend regular course sessions with an expert instructor vetted by Varsity Tutors and a group of classmates studying for the same exam you are. Everything takes place via our proprietary Live Learning Platform, meaning that you get the convenience of studying online instead of driving to a physical classroom. Features such as a virtual whiteboard provide a premium study experience, so you don't have to worry about trading quality for convenience.
Studying in a group setting can also prove advantageous. If you're having a hard time with a particular concept, one of your new friends can share how they approach it to give you another perspective. Likewise, you can explain a topic to somebody else to help them understand it while developing a deeper knowledge of it yourself. Working in a group also gives you superior value for your money.
If you would rather receive personalized attention, a private instructor may be a better fit for you. We can match you with an instructor who can work with you either online or in-person in as little as 24 hours, taking the stress out of trying to find the right individual. If you work online, our Live Learning Platform's video chat functionality allows you to see and hear each other as if you were in the same room. If you'd prefer to actually be in the same room, you can arrange study sessions at a local college, your favorite coffee shop, or even a local library. Regardless, you always have complete control over when each session takes place for added flexibility.
Working with a private instructor allows them to design sessions around your unique needs. If you're an auditory learner, a Q&A format might be a great way to help you retain information. If you're more visual by nature, your instructor can use flashcards to give you something to look at. Teaching is not a "one size fits all" process, so studying your way can end up saving a lot of time.
Can somebody help me determine which Pittsburgh NCLEX prep solution is right for me?
Sure. Educational consultants are currently available by phone or online to help steer you toward the Pittsburgh NCLEX prep method that best fits your needs. Use the information provided below to reach out to Varsity Tutors and get the process started today!
