If you're a student currently attending a Las Vegas educational institution such as Advanced Technologies Academy or Bishop Gorman High School, Varsity Tutors would be happy to assist you in connecting with the best Las Vegas SAT prep options. Most students begin to think about taking this exam in junior year of high school. The SAT is one of the biggest obstacles you will face when you start to think about gaining admission to a college or university. The SAT is an admissions exam which was created to evaluate your potential to do well in college and assess whether you have fully retained the knowledge and skills you've been taught in school. All US colleges accept this exam as part of the admissions application, so you'll want to do everything you can to prepare to do your best. A Las Vegas SAT prep course or instructor can help you review the skills needed to showcase your potential.

What can Las Vegas SAT prep cover?

The SAT is a three-hour exam which consists of three required sections as well as an optional essay portion. Each section appraises different skills and topics you'll need to have mastered to do well in college courses. The three required sections of the exam are Math, Reading, and Writing and Language. The Math portion assesses your algebraic skills and ability to problem solve. The Reading section evaluates your reading comprehension and logic skills. The Writing and Language test measures your ability to use grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, and other skills essential for writing in proper English. Let's take a closer look at the skills you will need to review to prepare for each section, starting with the optional Essay section.

If you opt into the essay, this will add an additional 50 minutes to your 3-hour SAT exam time. For the essay, you will need to read a passage and evaluate the author's use of evidence to establish his or her claims, the reasoning to connect the claims with evidence, and the use of different stylistic elements in the given passage. This is your opportunity to showcase your analytical writing skills. Your essay will not include whether or not you agree with the author's argument but will simply assess their use of evidence.

The Math section includes two different parts and you'll only have access to a calculator for one of the parts. Together, the Math portions span a period of 80 minutes and consist of 58 multiple-choice and grid-in questions. In this section, you are required to solve problems involving linear systems and equations and apply these concepts to real-world issues. To do well in this section, you will want to practice solving problems using shortcuts and by identifying and utilizing the most effective solution.

The next section assesses your Reading skills with 52 questions regarding your ability to find evidence in a given passage to support a conclusion. You'll have 65 minutes to answer questions from passages which can range in content from modern literature, sociology articles, or scientific passages about chemistry or physics. You're going to want to demonstrate your ability to use the evidence provided in the passages to come to a sound conclusion. An SAT prep course can help you gain confidence in your abilities to handle this section.

The final section is a 35-minute assessment of your Writing and Language skills. In this portion of the SAT, you'll have 44 questions to prove your command of standard English conventions such as verb tense, subject-verb agreement, parallel construction, and comma use. You will not need to have any previous understanding of the content in the passages to do well in this section. You'll need to make editorial decisions about how to improve the passages with different word choice, style, or tone. Practicing this process in an SAT prep course can help you sharpen your skills.
