Session Summaries by Languages Tutors

Languages Tutoring review by Carolyn in Richmond, VA
Today we went over the student's homework. We discussed the verbal phrases that he used in his dialogue, and then we went over the new verbs that he has been learning. I gave him a quiz on the newest 5 verbs, and then we moved on to reflexive verbs and vocabulary concerning clothing and shopping and activities that you do in certain clothing. We went over the pronunciation, and then we completed a verbal exercise in the book.

We reviewed chapters 5 and 6 from the student's French text book. The first half of the session was predominantly spent on reading, pronunciation, vocabulary, and recognition of specific sounds. We discussed sentence structure, the placement of adjectives and nouns. The second half was exploring commonly used words and expressions. These include words used to ask a question. I see the student's pronunciation is improving greatly. Excellent session.

Today we reviewed the vocab from the last session, and discussed spelling variations within regular verb conjugation. It is clear that we need to spend a bit more time on the subject, so I plan on devoting next session to it in depth, but they are able to have full on conversations now, and begin expressing more complex thoughts. Soon I will have them attempt a film synopsis, and then we'll be moving in a great direction, but were not there yet. I imagine we'll spend the next few sessions working deep into verb usage. Take a break from nominal/adverbial/prepositional vocab, and focus on the verbs.

The student and I are preparing for his test that is taking place in October. He has been given 20 potential writing prompts so we spent our time writing out bullet points, useful vocabulary and basic formatting for about 5 of the different prompts. I left him with 4 more to do on his own that I can grade when I see him next.

Languages Tutoring review by Anna in Richmond, VA
The student had done all of his homework in class, so we reviewed vocabulary from last week, and then practiced the present, imperfect, and simple future tenses with regular -er verbs. We also took the last few minutes to read and translate to put what he's been learning into context.
