How can a tutor help your child master the HSPT?

The High School Placement Test, or HSPT, is administered by individual private schools. It has 300 questions and students are given two-and-a-half hours to complete them. Students who take the HSPT are evaluated for their language, math, quantitative, reading, and verbal skills, though they have the option to complete other sections as well if their school of choice requires it. If your child wants to apply for admission to a private high school, you may be wondering how you may provide the best support for them. Proper test preparation is invaluable, however, classroom-based prep courses may not progress at a rate that works for your child. Varsity Tutors' educational directors may help you connect with a professional HSPT tutor in San Antonio, Texas, who may try to help bolster your child's confidence.

When you contact our educational directors, they may work with you to identify your child's learning personality, testing goals, school of choice, and more. The Varsity Tutors educational directors may find you an expert HSPT tutor in San Antonio to cater to your child's specific needs. You may let the directors know if your child needs to take one of the optional sections of the HSPT to try to find your child a tutor who's familiar with that area of study.

HSPT Tutoring review by Carolyn in San Antonio, TX
I gave her a practice test in Quantitative Reasoning. Her score has greatly improved. When I gave her time to answer the last few, she answered them all correctly, which would have improved her score to an 80%. So we will work on speed so she can answer all the questions.

This was my last session with the student before he takes the test tomorrow morning. During our time together, I had him work on the language arts and math achievement sections. Once he completed the test, we reviewed his answers, paying particular attention to geometry questions.

We completed the reading section. We reviewed the reading strategies discussed and I assigned her another practice section for Wednesday. We reviewed logic questions and she took an online verbal diagnostic test, as well as a verbal practice test. For homework, it was suggested she continue working on vocab and take a short diagnostic test in her study book. We will be working on algebra word problems and take a quantitative diagnostic next time.

HSPT Tutoring review by Michael in San Antonio, TX
In our last lesson, we finally finished going over mathematical formulas and applying those to problem solving. The student is definitely getting better especially with geometry though he is still struggling in basic algebra with compounding questions. We are going to practice this pretty steadily over the course of the next few months. We finished by going over logic and reasoning questions which he seems to have a decent initial grasp on. He will put all these skills to use when he takes the next practice test.

HSPT Tutoring review by Pallavi in San Antonio, TX
The student and I went through some math problems today. She needed to refresh how to multiply fractions and divide numbers that ended up having a quotient of less than one, but she quickly picked up on it after we reviewed these concepts together. I sent her an email with some useful homework and resources. It would be great if she could get a little bit faster in doing the problems because she knows the concepts (adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals and fractions, and converting between fractions, decimals, and percents). I think some extra multiplication practice would help her speed. She has been assigned to do an entire practice test by the next time I see her for the exam session (next Saturday). She can do a section a day as long as she completes a full test.
