Whether your student is in elementary, middle, or high school, if you want them to attend an independent or private school, it may be beneficial to contact Varsity Tutors and enroll your student in a Dayton SSAT class. The SSAT is a standardized test that is utilized by numerous independent and private schools as a part of their admissions process. As such, performing well on the test could boost your student's chances of getting into the independent or private school of your choice. The SSAT focuses on measuring students' reading, verbal, and math skills because these skills have been shown to predict success within grade levels. The overall purpose of the SSAT is to create a level playing field when comparing applicants during the admission process.
Depending on your student's age, they may take one of three different levels of the SSAT. These include an Elementary Level, Middle Level, and Upper Level. As the names indicate, the Elementary Level test is designed for students in elementary school, the Middle Level is designed for students either entering or currently in middle school, and the Upper Level is offered to students who are either entering or currently in high school.
What material can a Dayton SSAT class help my student review?
The SSAT covers a lot of material across a wide range of subject areas. As such, it can be helpful for your student to go through a class that helps them review the material that may show up on each section of the test. All three levels of the SSAT contain a Writing, Verbal, Quantitative, and Reading section. However, there are some differences between them, including the fact that the Elementary Level test has 89 questions while the Upper and Middle Levels have 167. There are also some differences in terms of the specific topics covered because the topics are age appropriate. What follows is a breakdown of the four sections and what your student can expect.
Writing
The Writing Section is not graded on any of the three levels of the SSAT. It is still important for your student to perform as well as possible on this section because it will still be sent to any school they might apply to.
On the Elementary Level test, students have 15 minutes to finish this section. They are provided with a picture that they must write a story about. The story has to include a beginning, middle, and end since students will be measured on their ability to organize a story while also paying attention to grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
On the Middle and Upper Levels, students have 25 minutes to complete the section. Rather than writing about a picture, students are provided with two writing prompts that they must choose between. On the Middle Level, they have to choose between two creative options, while they are able to choose between a creative or narrative option on the Upper Level.
Verbal
The Verbal Section is focused on the English language for each of the three levels. The Elementary Level test has 30 questions and students are given 30 minutes to finish it. This section primarily focuses on the relationship between words and vocabulary at this level. In contrast, the Middle and Upper levels have 60 questions, with 30 of them covering synonyms and the other 30 covering analogies. Students still only have 30 minutes to complete this section despite the additional questions.
Quantitative
The Quantitative section is concerned with math-related topics at each of the three levels. There is also a similarity in the sense that students are not permitted to use calculators on this section for any of the three levels.
The Elementary Level test has 30 questions and students have 30 minutes to finish this section. At this level, the test is focused on more basic math such as probability, measurement, and number sense. It may be beneficial for your student to be well-versed in division and subtraction, among other topics for this section.
The Middle and Upper Levels have two sections with 25 questions each for this section and students have an hour to finish them. These sections cover slightly more complex math such as arithmetic, algebra, and geometry.
Reading
All three of the Reading sections focus on reading comprehension. Students are expected to be able to read through passages and identify the main idea. The primary difference between the three levels is the complexity of the passages. While the Elementary Level is just focused on the main ideas and meanings behind particular words, the Middle and Upper Levels also want students to be able to determine the author's purpose and be able to make predictions based on the provided information.
How can a Dayton SSAT course help my student prepare?
Dayton SSAT courses are held online. This makes it easier to fit a course into your student's busy schedule. Whether your student is in a chess club or on the football team, it's possible that your student has a schedule full of homework and extracurricular activities. As such, it can be challenging to find time to study for another test. That is why having the option to take a course online can be so beneficial. You won't have to worry about driving your student to yet another activity because they can simply stay at home and still have access to a course that can help them prepare for the SSAT.
SSAT courses are designed to resemble a regular class. Thus, your student will have access to an instructor who can help guide them through the material they may need to review to do well on the exam. In addition to the instructor, your student can also work with other students, which gives them the chance to collaborate with others in group activities.
How can I enroll my student in a Dayton SSAT prep course?
Enrolling your student in a Dayton SSAT prep course is as simple as contacting Varsity Tutors either online or over the phone. Feel free to reach out today and sign your student up for either two-week or four-week session.

I have a passion for helping all students learn and understand math whether it's their least or most favorite subject. I believe all people can gain a strong understanding if shown different strategies to comprehend and complete problems. ... I would like to get to know the student. I believe the best teacher is one who truly knows his or her student. Not just their academic ability, but also their interests.
