ACT Math Tutoring review by Kelly in San Antonio, TX
Today, the student and I continued working on the ACT Math section. Specifically, I explained how to find vertical and horizontal asymptote as well as holes. I showed her what each looked like both on a graph and in an equation and then she worked practice questions to find both types of asymptotes and holes in example equations. Next, we practiced using her formulas for area and volume, especially of cylinders because that is a commonly missed type of question. Next, I explained the three trig functions to her as well as the many ways they could be used in an ACT question. We worked practice problems on this topic including how to use her calculator to solve those type of problems. Finally, I explained our game plan for the next week until her ACT test: to finish going over a few more key math topics she still needs to work on, to review overall reading and test strategies, and to go over and questions or concerns she has before the test.

ACT Math Tutoring review by Ian in San Antonio, TX
The student and I reviewed his homework, which displayed significant improvements, before we focused on geometry and coordinate geometry problems for the remainder of our session. Despite earlier setbacks, he seems to have fully committed to memorizing all the necessary formulae he will need for the test, and he seems more eager to attack a problem by transposing the variables of the problem into an abstract mathematical relationship. I hope he keeps up the good work. For homework he will complete the remainder of an ACT math section that we began before.

ACT Math Tutoring review by Liban in San Antonio, TX
We first discussed areas in the student's math she needs to review, primary of which is quadratics. We spent the first hour going over the basics of quadratics. She is proficient at direct usage of quadratics (factoring, solving). I translated common quadratic problems so that she could understand what to do and how to approach these problems. After plenty of examples, she began to feel comfortable with the material. We then performed another math section. This time around she was able attempt more questions. I assigned her some practice problems to improve in this field.

ACT Math Tutoring review by Pooja in San Antonio, TX
Today the student and I worked on worksheets over multiplying binomials, solving inequalities, factoring equations and solving, and using the quadratic formula. She said she was comfortable with most of the question we did but that some of the factoring questions were a bit challenging. I am going to send some problems to her over material we have covered in our last two sessions so that she can practice before our next session.
